« on: July 15, 2012, 12:42:24 PM »
Can anyone advise what set up I would need for the CB550 f2 carbs fitted with pod air filters. The ones I'm considering are these...

Here's the carbs...

Thanks in advance.

The exhaust would be a 4-1 mac.

Anyone know what jest sizes needed for these carb pods? http://bit.ly/NJuXSF

How will the bike run if using standard (service kit jets etc)? Will it be a bag of sh** and run too rich?

stock clip position is 4th from top (there are 5 notches)
I've gotten my jets all from JetsRus.com but you are in the UK so I'm not sure that's a viable source for you. based on the picture you provided those are 022a carbs, which use the "push-in" style keihin main jets and threaded pilot jets. JetsRus would be a good place to look at the picture to see what they look like if you need to know, and maybe then search for a more local source.

Is that correct or are the pilots push-in?? Just asking ;)

Yes, those carbs have push in jets.  They are held in place by the leaf spring and is fitted with an o-ring.

Strange - my 550F's got 069A carbs too. The slow jets are threaded... The main jets are pressed in and held by o-rings and the leaf spring.

Anyway, before jumping into the joy of finding the correct jets and needle positions for your custom intake, you should make sure that all the jets, orifices and passages in the carb bodies are free. Run thin steel guitar strings or single strands of control cables through the passages. Pay special attention to the idle circuit that is running from the carb's intake to the idle adjustment screw, touches the passage where the pilot jet sits and ends with a tiny hole just in front of the slide. You'll also need to take out the needle jets/"emulsifier tubes" and clean all their tiny orifices. Use copper strands for the jets, since steel will damage them.

It's a time consuming process and I have a fealing that a lot of the problems that people with pods on their carbs have, have their reason in carbs that have not been cleaned thoroughly.

My mistake. Your right :-)

I'm actually stripping the carbs to bits and thoroughly cleaning. Thanks for the tips :-)
