looking for a mechanic...
« on: June 22, 2006, 10:13:19 AM »
Greetings -

I've got a '73 CB350F.  I can do some of my own wrenching, but not all.  I'm looking for a good mechanic who will work on these bikes.

I live north of Boston near Salem, MA.  Any suggestions?

Thanks!

A lot of people will probly disagree with me on here.  But try looking for a honda dealership.  You may end up paying more, but the honda dealership in my area has taken good care of my bike.  The first time I took it in there, i brought it around back and saw a cb350 being worked on in the back, which made me feel more comfortable about leaving it there.  I am also only mildly mechanicaly inclinded as well, I leave the bigger tasks for them.

So much to say so little typing ability!!     You might get lucky and find a decent wrench at a shop (dealer or other) but why pay the shop rate?   Get a manual read read and read again.  If you can find someone local they will usually help.  Best thing on learning/working on your bike is you'll know it if it breaks down.

most franchise dealers will not work on these bikes because parts are not always available. these bikes are fairly easy to work on and the people on this board can walk you through anything. good luck

Thanks to everyone for your replies.

I did call the local Honda dealer but they basically had no interest in working on the bike due to inavailability of parts.  Wimps.  So, it looks like I'm on my own.

I did get the Clymer manual and the Honda shop manual, so I have some information.  I'm about to dive into a carb rebuild, and got a very good and detailed writeup on that procedure from a guy named Harprit Sandhu.  If I get through that without melting the bike down for scrap, I'll probably be ready for whatever else comes up.

Thanks!!

...russel, not only will you have the satisfaction of doing the job yourself, but also the assurance of knowing its done right.  No one (dealer or otherwise) is going to take the care and attention to detail working on your bike like you will.
