My loving wife has found me a boat. I figure it was built from a Popular Mechanics plywood boat plan back in the 60's...but that is just a hunch. Here are a few pics of what I have...and please give me any leads that come to mind. The hull isnt plywood but the top is, all of the slats are about 1" and the whole hull is covered in fiberglass.  The length is about 5 feet and about 2 feet wide. I dont think it was remote control, must have been a ride on top type of deal.

Was there any provision for a rudder? If not, maybe it was meant to follow a narrow channel, like in an amusement park, but it's hard to imagine anyone riding on top of it. I've never seen a motor like that before; looks like a diaphragm carb at the lower right. Is it a 2-stroke or 4-stroke?

If that motor has to go Ive got half of a 750 built that would work great.

Neat project, cant point you in any good directions for parts or websites but cool project.

I did some searching and found....nothing. I did find a sweeeeet engine on ebay for an RC boat 4.5hp!!? with velocity stack and all.  Maybe some guy got plans for a boat but didnt have the space so he scaled it down? There is a place for a rudder.

Pssst Frankie.... don't look now, but your dinghy is showing  ::)

If you scrape off some of the paint by the bow I bet you'll see the painted over lettering that says 'S.S. Minnow'...

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale,
A tale of a fateful trip
That started from this tropic port
Aboard this tiny ship.

The mate was a mighty sailing man,
The skipper brave and sure.
Five passengers set sail that day
For a three hour tour, a three hour tour.

The weather started getting rough,
The tiny ship was tossed,
If not for the courage of the fearless crew
The minnow would be lost, the minnow would be lost.

The ship set ground on the shore of this uncharted desert isle
With Gilligan
The Skipper too,
The millionaire and his wife,
The movie star
The professor and Mary Ann,
Here on Gilligans Isle.

So this is the tale of the castways,
They're here for a long, long time,
They'll have to make the best of things,
It's an uphill climb.

The first mate and the Skipper too,
Will do their very best,
To make the others comfortable,
In the tropic island nest.

No phone, no lights no motor cars,
Not a single luxury,
Like Robinson Crusoe,
As primative as can be.

So join us here each week my freinds,
You're sure to get a smile,
From seven stranded castways,
Here on "Gilligan's Isle."

Just showed the pics to my boss and he thinks it is supposed to be a clipper sailboat? Maybe for kids? Maybe start it up and set it out on a lake? I just really want to sand it and make it shiny. As for a name I am things "cleppa"

Considering the size, it could be some sort of push boat, although the motor is way small.  But that would explain the lack of a rudder.  On the other hand, a rudder might have been off the stern enough to clear the prop.  I disagree on the amusement ride thought.  It wouldn't use a gas motor.  I'd love to see it in person.

Not sure about the thought it is a kid's sailboat. I don't see much of a keel nor a well for a keel board, but I'm no mariner either.  ;)

Looks like a model that is missing the superstructure. Maybe not remote control but on that you set, send it off and then walk around the pond to meet on the otherside.

It sort of resembles a 1/3 or 1/4 scale tugboat.

I think it needs a couple of radio controlled turrets with some full-auto paintball guns.

Take a tape measure to it.  Judging from the height of the fence, it looks more like 6 or 7 feet long.  The design looks like a launch from the early powered era.  Can't tell from the pic whether it real or a replica, but the wood under the motor is newer, as the motor is as well.  The original motor on this type of boat would most likely have been a small "hit or miss" engine.

Disneyland Autopia. Little cars with gas motors.

Little different.  When one of those cars dies or runs out of gas, riders can step out and walk back.  Not that there aren't  gas boat rides, but wood isn't the best material for a boat where operators aren't always familiar with operating boats.  Too easy to go "bumper boats".  Fiberglass is much better for this application.  Most of the ones I've done are fiberglass or even fat inner tubes(real bumper boats).

I just had an antique dealer look at it, she called it a "Pond yacht" and I guess they were all the rage back in the day. She says they would use them in Marblehead and at Jamaica Pond.

333 - The boat is 7 feet long, 24 inches wide, and about 11 inches deep.

Not that I think it's a possibility here, but an air cooled motorcycle engine in a boat usually doesn't work.  Mounting it where it needs to be in relation to a propeller puts it where it will get no air for cooling.  If you can mount it high enough to help avoid that, but keep the crankshaft(and output shaft from the transmission), you then have a relatively cool front cylinder, and increasingly hotter cylinders down the bank.  And finally, you can mount it high enough and positioned as it is in a bike, but it is difficult to turn the output 90 degrees to use it, unless you are powering a paddlwheeler.

My barber found a 6' hydroplane, it has a 10 hp champion and was built for kids to race in the 50's or 60's. He can fit and run it around the lake.

"In it".  And ride in it you should.  But we're gonna need a good build thread, reminiscent of Seawebs boat thread.  And then we'll need video of the ride.
