Ohlins shocks for a CB550?
« on: July 24, 2012, 01:35:57 PM »
So I'm making a parts list for my bike of things I'm going to upgrade/change. All the usual ones are there, new tank, seat, rearsets, clip ons or clubmans, etc....I want to replace the rear shocks with Ohlins, but are there any that are a direct fit to replace the OEM shocks?

Man, you really have some money burning a hole in your pocket that you are just itchin' to get rid of, aren't ya?
Ohlins for a bike like this is serious overkill and quite costly.

Call Klaus at EPM Performance.  He can build you a bad ass set of fully adjustable shocks for much less than a set of Ohlins.

Lots of options.  High/Low speed compression, preload, rebound, ride height.

Now now cameron, we might be able to reach this one before he wastes a bunch of money.  ;)

Can't go wrong with Hagon's

Set up for your specific bike and a free spring swap if you'd like as well!

Hi Kevin, is that what you use on your race bike mate..?  If yes, what model shocks are they..?

+ 1 for Klaus. I just go to his shop, and he hooked me up. He uses YSS shocks, might be able to get others.

Öhlins never made any shocks for these old HONDAs from the 70's. Made for the bikes the decade later 80 something and later.... I remeber when my friends with newer bikes got the golden shocks.

I bought Marzocchi AG Strada to my CB750. Probably available for CB550 25-30 years ago.

From the link earlier in this thread I ended up here for 550...

I picked up a set of Ohlins shocks (cheaply, I might add) originally intended for a CB900 that fit pretty well.  They are pretty long though - I'm not sure on the dimension of the CB550, but the Ohlins for the 900 are 14.25" length.

Thanks guys, Shocks will be one of the last things I do probably. On a different subject, I really want to mount a speedo/tach into my headlight bucket....Problem is, I'm having a hell of a time finding a combo that won't cost me an arm, leg, and my left testicle. I've seen a few that are reasonable but they're mostly for Harleys and have the wrong ratios....any suggestions? But if worst comes to worst, I'll just go with a speedo mounted in the bucket
