Noob in Detroit
« on: July 25, 2012, 12:44:53 PM »
I am the new owner of a '76 750.  I know that I've got a lot to learn about this bike and am nervously looking forward to this experience.

My bike runs OK, but needs a new seat, the rear tail light doesn't work (but the brake light does) and needs the neutral light sorted out.  Oh, and while it's pretty clean from the sides and top, the bottom is a mess.  Looks like it's been sitting in a tub of sludge.  The chain is sagging a bit, but she needs a thorough cleaning before I go much further.

Anyway- I'm happy to have found such a great resource and hope to not come up with anything that hasn't been covered already.

Welcome. Post a pic when you can. You will likely get a kick out of sorting it out, a true sense of accomplishment and there is plenty of expert help around here should you need it.
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

It is daunting at first.  I haven't had my bike long but each time I fix something I feel that much more comfortable.

The search at the top right is not working, the google search at the top left works great.  Use it often!

My neutral light has been stuck on since I got the bike, it has made me very aware about making sure the bike is in neutral before releasing the clutch.  I still need to sort mine out, haha.

Also, everyone loves pictures so be sure to post some up.

Welcome and best of luck!

Here's a pic that PO provided for me prior to driving out.

I think the paint looks nice, but the seat pictured rubbed through to bare metal.  I did find a '73 K seat, but need to track down hinges and and the lock stud.  Thinking about checking out EMC Cycle in Yale on Friday.  Hoping the parts picking will be worth the drive.

Kinda got shafted with a short weekend and spent WAY too much time at Ikea with my wife and not nearly enough time in the garage.  Hoping to make up for it this weekend.

Doesn't look like much to clean up.  Good bike to start with.  Careful though, tons of goodies out there to spend your money on and wonder why you have no money for the mortgage that month.  Not saying it is expensive, there are just that many goodies out there.  This bike is an addiction.
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.
