Rhonda, my K1 750 Honda
« on: July 26, 2012, 11:43:28 PM »
Welp, over the last 2 months the ish hit the fan, ole lady broke her back practicing for a upcoming race at 408MX with OTHG. Lost a renter to marriage(he got a sweet house out of the deal, all good for him), and had to take leave off work to care for my lady. With no income, started selling off cars, bikes, and trucks to make sure we didn't get in the red. This also put the hurt on my reputation from eBay to many forums. :( Well, things are now getting better, gotta right a few obligations I committed to prior in hopes of restoring my name. What does this have to do with the projects forum? My lil ole K1 that's been on the back burner got some attention! With Ally on some heavy meds she spent a lot of time asleep after she finally came home. Outfitted the house with a intercom system, and while she slept I started opening boxes and migrating parts to their new home. She won't be cafe, nor a resto, just a sweet CB750 I'll be riding daily. All wiring new, superbike bars drilled for switches, and a few K0 bits bolted up for fun. Everything needs to be repainted as I bought all the K0 stuff as a lot for $50 from a guy who inherited it and promptly dumped everything on his front lawn in hopes of getting it all recycled ASAP. Anyways, on to the pics!

Rhonda as she sits now

With Carpys pipe borrowed before I put the Kerker on

So that's where she is at now. Coming soon, need to get new foam and cover for the K0 ducktail seat, ordered new tires today, and finish the side covers so the new jewels and script fit properly. When that's accomplished the tank, side covers, air box, and headlight bucket will be re shot at the same time, same metallic blue with light purple pearl over gold K1 stripes. Then build up the correct K1 cases  I have sitting on the shelf with big bore and mega cycle cam. :)

Forgot to add, in desperation I listed her on Cragslist, but pulled the ad after ~45 minutes.

For grins I think I'm going to use the K0 badges on the tank I have stashed. ;)

Oh yeah, and a K2 front end to be rebuilt for her, apparently externally identical, but better valving. Now, have to decide on rear shocks, the S&W air shocks, or the Konis... Hmmmmm..".

Hey, I just noticed you're in San Jose!  Where do you do most of your street riding?

G'Day mate, first of all, please wish Ally all the best for me, I injured my back jumping out of perfectly good Aeroplanes, but Ally's X Ray makes me wince just to look at it! I hope she recovers quickly.

Your K1 looks nice mate, but restrict your burnouts to bikes you really don't like, you don't want bits of clutch floating around in your oil and blocking the oil jets in your head. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Hey, I just noticed you're in San Jose!  Where do you do most of your street riding?

Mostly commuting for now, with the occasional run up Mt Hamilton. Was considering popping in at one of CycleGears bike nights.

Did you go to Moto GP this year? Saw a real nice K0 there, and a few cafe bikes:

My buddy caught Ben's helmet(yeah, he is a Yamaha guy, but I forgive him, LOL)

What happened to Ben Spies helmet?

G'Day mate, first of all, please wish Ally all the best for me, I injured my back jumping out of perfectly good Aeroplanes, but Ally's X Ray makes me wince just to look at it! I hope she recovers quickly.

Hey Terry! It was a gentle burnout, the tire is so hard and dry it'll spin on gentle launches. I'd hate to snap a chain and trash my cases. New tires should be on tonight though, with a DID staked chain on the way. :)

Ally is doing much better, 4 more weeks in the brace, then PT starts. Here she is on the bike we are getting her for when she is all better:

And I'm getting this at the same time:  ;)

I'd forgive him too, that's a nice Yammy!  Didn't make it to MotoGP, but I just started getting weekends free.  Let me know if you're heading to that Cycle Gear event.  That East Bay meet up isn't too far from me.

Will do! Preferable after paint is done, but we'll see how things shape up.  :D

On another note, lookie what the tire fairy dropped off today, a set of Conti Twins Classics to replace the dangerously dry garbage I've been rolling around on. Time to dig out the spoons!

I had a few minutes spare today, and since none of the points covers I have are in decent shape, whipped up a piece in Solidworks I can make out of aluminum here at the shop. Any thoughts? Look too modern? I'm going to make a matching stator and clutch cover of course...

Material cost only, not for profit. Honestly I did not plan on running more than 5 of each, 2 for my dad, and 2 for me. I'm adjusting the design to maintain strength in case of knock over yet attempt a period correct feel. I'll post up some more ideas tomorrow. I personally love my 750 FOUR script, but the diehards thought it was overkill with the side cover emblem. Extruded SOHC seems to be the winner so far. Keep in mind these are not cast pieces, it would be much cheaper and I can afford more detail with cast, at the cost of overall surface precision. Lol

Btw, I can't make a 750 FOUR cover in extruded, not enough room between the txt, and I'm too lazy to make my own font. Lol

Very nice mate, I've got a similar pair of cast covers from "back in the day" with Honda logo from memory (haven't looked at them for awhile) I'll post a pic tomorrow, if you like? Cheers, Terry. ;D

That'd be great Terry! I have a few sets as well, all of them damaged, and different styles.

For grins, have any of you seen a cover like this before, and if so who made it?

That's an OEM cover that has been attacked with a grinder to allow easy access to the sprocket mate, very common mod for race bikes "back in the day", I did one for my bike too. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Good eye Terry, I've had that bike in my garage for a little over a year now and didn't notice! LOL! Good call too, that bike was championed at Sears Point in the late 70's in AFM.

I was actually reffering to the smooth stator cover though. ;)
