Last weekend, went to pick up my pipes. I was greeted with this!

Aaaand, cleaning up a set of front forks:



Also put a K&N filter in, pulls real nice on top. Ordered a set of AllBallz tapered roller steering head bearings, fork seals, and fork gaiters. Hope they show up soon!

OK, a little more progress:

Hung 341 pipes
Tapered steering head bearings installed
New fork boots
New seals in F1 front forks
Larger F1 front brake
Nicer front fender that fits

Don't mind the filth, she desperately needs a bath!

Seat strap was a flea-bay find. I wound up using a OEM strap from a used seat I bought though, the re-pop quality was lacking.

Been a little while since I updated, going through the motor, got tired of the oil leaks. 836 kit on the way along Cyclexchange Super gasket kit, Web #41 grind cam, and Kibblewhite stainless valves. Yay!



Cleaned up and rebuilt the carbs along with bench synching them.



Quicky touchup on the frame paint, and welded in the section of frame a previous owner had cut out.



Last big eyesore is to get some decent shocks on the back. I'm thinking the chrome Hagons with the upper shield.

CycleX complete Super gasket kit came, put the halves back together and mounted in frame.



I'm sold on CycleX. The gaskets are a serious piece of work!!! Ken is also a kick to talk to on the phone. I'm ordering my 836 piston kit, CycleX stainless valves, guides, tensioner kit, and beehive valve spring conversion from them (already bought my cam otherwise they'd get my money)!!!!



I'm still on the fence as to wether I will paint the tank, covers, air box, and bucket myself or leave it to a pro.

Terry, I would never ever suggest installing the kit in a uncut frame. However, a previous owner cut the frame, and I tell you what, it's sooooooo easy getting a lump in and out solo.. I pulled the top end off the old motor to make things easy on myself during removal. Install of that bottom end was a snap!

For grins here is a pic of the bike next in line, check the frame mod, clears the head and cylinder. ;)

Yeah mate, I (at the request of another member) installed one of Gordon's kits in a frame he wanted to buy from me, but he's since changed his mind so I guess I'll use it, it's a very well engineered kit so I don't think it'll hurt, and it'll be pretty simple to install/remove the engine, as you've attested.

Your new project? Beautiful wheels mate, but I don't think much of the frame mods. Sure, they'll help when you want to remove the top end, but I don't think they'll add any rigidity to the frame. No offence intended mate, and I hope it works out for you, you do good work. Cheers, Terry. ;D

No offense taken. ;) That bike is Wanda, and was raced in AFM in the late 70's.

And yes, Gordon's frame kit is very nice, like you I'm against cutting original frames. :)

Speedo done. Looks much better.



Now I can actually read the gauge. The lighting isn't even so I'm going to put a round cold cathode behind it, and a couple ultra violet LED's to bring out the needle when I refinish it. The tip will be a fluorescent orange and should really glow, great for checking speed/revs at a glance. That will get done when I get new crimp rings. Low priority right now, gotta finish the 836 build first!



Have to make a blind for the jewels....

CycleX coated big bore pistons, CycleX nitrited stainless valves, new guides, and Kibblewhite beehive spring conversion. Time to hit the machine shop!

The gauge is a Marshall. Carpy has it listed for a little over $50 but a quick trip to a Harley shop will get you the exact same gauge for $35. If you want I can give you the recipe for the Home Depot super cheap brass NPT elbow PN and the tap to make it work, or PM me you address and I can send you the cap you have to drill and tap with elbow installed for free (I have a bunch kicking around)

I just set a adapter aside for you. Say the word and ill send it over. The gauge will screw right in. I will suggest 1 layer of Teflon tape on the threads.

Just a quick word to noobs on oil pressure gauges. I used to make and sell kits for CB750's before they became freely available on Ebay. from Carpy etc.

Most Harley oil pressure guages are only 60 PSI items, and a CB750 will pump out in excess of 80 PSI when cold, if the oil pump is good, so if you use a 60 PSI Harley item, you'll end up with the needle laying in the bottom of the gauge. Make sure you buy a 100 PSI item like the one in the pic. 

Question for 1Bad750, can you measure those coated pistons and tell me what their OD is about an inch up from the bottom of the skirts on the "Thrust Faces"? My 836cc bores are a tad worn, and I'm wondering if the extra thickness of the coating on those pistons would "fill the gap"? Cheers, Terry. ;D
