OK, for all my Seppo mates, gather around while I educate you about things Oz. Over here, we have most of the brands of cars that you guys have, but most are imported.

The two most popular brands of cars that have been manufactured in Oz for most of the 20th century and still are made here are Ford and Holden. (Holden is GM Australia, better known as GMH) While many Aussies drive other brands, (Honda Mazda, Toyota, Nissan, Hyundai etc) the Holden and Ford fans are still in the majority, and are pretty evenly divided.

The "Ford vs Holden" thing comes to a head in October every year when the "Bathurst 1000" race is run at Mount Panorama in New South Wales, to decide which is the better car. This in itself is a moot point as apart from the shape of the body panels, these hand built race cars have nothing in common with the cars available to mere mortals at the local Ford or Holden dealerships.

If you were born into a Holden family, the expectation was that you'd be a Holden man for life, and same for Ford guys. At school it was common for "Ford vs Holden" fights to regularly break out, among kids too young to have ever driven either car.

I guess I was lucky, I didn't belong to either camp as my father wasn't that interested in cars, we had first an Austin , than a Pontiac, then a Valiant (by Chrysler) a Morris, and then a Triumph in the 1970's. My folks still drive that thing around, but I did convince them to buy a Ford Station Wagon in 1985, which they still have as well, and it's still like a new car, as they prefer to drive the Triumph. The 27 year old Ford has just done 65,000 miles.

I've owned both Fords and Holdens, and while I lean towards Fords because I love small block Cleveland V8's, Holden builds great cars too. The last Pontiac's in the US were actually designed and built here in Oz, and sold here as the Holden Commodore.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pontiac_G8

With Australia's current love affair with SUV's, both Ford and Holden are losing ground to the Japanese and Korean manufacturers, and both GM and Ford have threatened to cease manufacturing in Oz if sales continue to drop. It's a pity that our two main political parties won't go the same way............. Which pisses me off. ;D

yep,im on holidays stevo, come on terry,we all know that only bogans drive fords!

Ha ha, yeah mate, it's not like a Bogan would wear a Monaro hat and be covered in "Tramp Stamps", and take pictures of himself giving everyone the finger! That's way too classy! ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

My kid is seriously pissed right now. While having the carbs form his cbr off to install a jet kit he decided it would be a good idea to replace the float bowl gaskets while he's at it. Every site he went to would show a set of 4 float bowl gaskets with prices around $20 which seemed fine by him. Uuhhhm no. His gaskets or should I say gasket (singular not plural) showed up today. It turns out that even though all the ads he saw would show a set of 4 float bowl gaskets the fine print said the $20 was for just 1 not 4 gaskets which would make it a grand total of $80 for nothing more than float bowl gaskets. Absolutely nuts.

It gets even better. $20 was too much so my kid sent the single gasket back for a refund and found a set of 4 on ebay for around $45, still pretty salty but cheaper than $80 for a set of 4. They were expected to arrive today however while tracking the package it just dawned on him that the gaskets are being delivered to his apartment at college which is 3 hrs away rather than here and his room mate is home for the holidays as well so he's really pissed now because he's itching to fire the bike up. He's already tossed the old gaskets so now we're scrambling to come up with a way to seal the bowls without making a mess of things.

It's a beautiful day, will probably get up to 90-odd degrees later today, I've done all my "pre-Christmas BBQ" chores, so I think I'll go for a ride, but I can't decide which bike I'll ride? Man, having choices pisses me off! ;D

Sounds like a plan to me, mate. ;)
Check the entry form on the website link - tells you the format and what to expect...should be a great weekend.
We've got it here for 2014 too, then in '15 and '16 it's in ACT.
I went to Warilla, NSW, this year for it, was fantastic, so put my hand up to run it here...got the nod and here we are.
You'll be pissed off if you miss it  ;D

In Texas, they call it Deferred Disposition.  You basically pay a fee and if you don't get any tickets in the designated timeframe, the ticket does not go on your record.

For my last ticket, speeding of course, I took an online safety course and the ticket was waived. This is allowed once a year.

I get pissed when I get more than 1 ticket a year!

Ha ha, I was happy not to have to pay the 150 dollar fine plus unknown court costs Mick, and not cop a demerit point on my license, I don't mind making a 100 dollar donation to the hospital either, but I think the Good behavior Bond sucks, no more riding unregistered bikes around for 6 months? Bloody hell, that's how I roll! Cheers, Terry. ;D

Ha ha, I'm with you there mate, once Christmas is out of the way I have to do oil and filter changes on the family fleet (4 cars, none of which are mine) and they're all a bastaard to get the filters and sump plugs out. I'm looking forward to it like herpes........ ;D

You definitely don't want to mess with Terry when his back pain meds haven't kicked in yet. :) I am pissed at him though because he's not making oil cooler adapters for the 550 anymore. Bummer
