I've recently joined another Honda motorcycle forum, here in Oz. The members aren't bad blokes for the most part, but with the exception of one or two, many of them don't have a really good mechanical knowledge, and a few of them, know nothing at all about other marques.
I explained, when I introduced myself that while I have a limited knowledge of the bikes that they all worship in that particular forum, I have 40+ years experience with many other bikes, including, of course, the mighty CB750. Regardless, some of them still consider me a "Noob". "Some are very "Cliquey", indeed............
In one discussion regarding twin disc setups, I'd said that the smaller dia piston MC designed for single front discs would work with twin discs, however the lever would be pretty spongy, compared to using the 5/8" dia piston MC. These MC's, by the way, are identical to the K0-K6 MC's, and so I've had personal experience with them for years, plus we've discussed the same situation here, so I was quite confidant that I was providing relevant, useful information.
To my amusement, one young member who has only been riding bikes for 3 years told me that he was "pulling rank" on me, as he'd tried to run twin calipers off the 14mm MC and it just didn't work, was dangerous, blah blah blah.
He was quite rude about it, so I laughed at him, and explained to him that I've been working on bikes longer that he's been alive, so there's no way that he will ever be able to "Pull rank" on me, and the most likely reason that his brakes didn't work, was that he probably hadn't bled his brakes properly, with his limited mechanical knowledge and experience. I then went for a ride.
When I got home, I fired up the computer to see that the mod (hall monitor) had sent me quite a confronting PM about how I was wrong and I was spreading incorrect information, blah blah blah. Reading between the lines, I could see that I'd upset his little mate, and he was demanding an apology. I told him that what I'd posted was correct, and that he and the other dick were wrong.
His next email was even worse, he told me that I'd come up on his "radar" on several occasions in my short time as a member, and if I didn't smarten up my ways, he might just ban me from the site. (activity that day was that only 9 members had logged in, and the record for log ins was 39, so it's not a very busy site) He then directed me to read the rules before I replied to him, or posted anything else.
I quickly reread the rules, and PM'd him back to confirm that I'd reread them, and believed that I'd done nothing to contravene the rules. Further, I asked him if he didn't think that perhaps he might have "overstepped the mark" regarding his moderator duties? His reply was "Nope".
I'm really looking forward to meeting him "face to face" next month at the VJMC rally (Goldwing willing of course, because if it's not ready, I won't be going....) where he might just have to change his "Tone" when he talks to me.
Moderators who aren't "neutral", and think that their own actions are above reproach, piss me off................. Cheers, Terry.
