The CBX looks to be charging quite well.

Yep! You always need to have one eye on the voltmeter, because there's not much warning when the brushes give up the ghost, then you're soon stuck by the side of the road. This is why I immediately noticed the lack of charge when he started his bike!

I'm glad to see a Japanese motorcycle which comes Standard with a voltmeter.  8)

Voltmeter is very useful.
I have had much use of them I added on my CB750's.
To verify the charging, a longer ride is needed, over 1 hour, 2 is better despite fully charged battery before the ride.

A bad battery can be detected in time.

My Grand Cherokee lost 4WD.  The lever moves without shifting the transfer case.   I did not get under it yet to check it out but nobody carries a replacement cable. That pisses me off - we are expecting snow this Saturday.

Go have a look. When my 2004 did that it was a split pin that rotted and fell out and then the larger pin disappeared. From memory it was a bit tough to get to, but easy fix. Good Luck!

Thank you, sir.  I got under it today and found out bushings are missing on both ends.  Luckily, there is a fix:

https://www.bushingfix.com/jeep-grand-cherokee-transfer-case-shift-cable-repair-kit/

The end at the transfer case was off the pin, I put it back and snugged a zip tie behind as a temporary collar.  Worst case scenario I will put it on Full Time 4wd and leave it till my bushings order comes through.

Biggest pain was to remove the center console.

The saga continues.  The repair kit came and it was just one bushing.  I assumed kit is a kit to fix it for good.  Oh well, used the piece on the transfer case end and will make something for the shfiter end.

And it pissed me off since the one dumb bushing was $32.11 shipped.  I am pretty sure I will find something that will work in our local hardware store for $5 or so.

We bought a 1" x 12" piece of Delrin rod for $10. I've been making bushings for the swingarm of the 78' KL 250 on the lathe. I also made the little plastic nut for the headlight adjustment, you can even cut threads into it. I bet you can make super bushings for the shifter that will outlast the Jeep.

Working on the front end of my cb750K6 project today and pulled the fork caps. I had two sets that vintagecb750.com sent me a while back when I complained about a problem with them. Well they are junk too. They thread in about two turns and then start to seize up. Careful inspection of the threads shows they are the same pitch as the originals but angles are not right and the thick layer of chrome makes them worse. They are inexpensive, but don’t waste your money.

Polished up the old ones and they slipped right home. Buy your next set from HONDA

I got 330,000 out of my 2004 before one of the rear axle trailing arms pulled the entire front mount right out of the body. I still miss the darn thing. That “Select Trac” transfer case with a full locking option was the best drive system ever built. I never got stuck anywhere!

Man, you two make me glad that I don't have to deal with that salt crap. 8)

I've always been a fan of the NP 203 full time transfer case. High and low 4WD plus high and low lock 4WD.
My other favorite is the NP 208, they are so good that there's no aftermarket hop up parts for it. Extreme off roaders don't like it because it's only 2 to 1 reduction but they don't seem to break. If the hubs are locked I can go in and out of 4WD high at speed with one click of the lever.

I can see a little salt needed, when the snow finally arrives.
The thing I don't like(I'm from the NE USA in 'cold country')is when the salt trucks roll out to salt the roads preemptively, expecting the coming storm;then the storm doesn't arrive in-force as expected, but those roads are Very Salty in anticipation of it...  :o ::)  >:(  Needless, imo.  :'(

Around here (100 km outside Toronto) it’s mostly a mix of sand and salt. Generally the roads are fantastically maintained. Tonight we expect 15-25 cm of snow overnight and the crews will be out as it ends. With Temperatures hovering around the freezing mark, most of the plows will be spreading at the same time. If the sun comes out tomorrow, 90% of our paved roads will be clean and dry by 2:00pm.

It does leave a heck of a mess in Spring and especially for motorcycles. We need to take a look of care in April to avoid the piles of loose sand at most intersections!

A mix of sand and salt  :)  sand can help more than 'just salt' imo.
I like what you mentioned about the crews will be out "as it ends"  ;) which I think gives them the best indications as to how much to apply to the roads.

Usually, US Post and Canada Post are pretty reliable…….NOT THIS TIME!

I wanted an extra key for my current K6 project. The one I have operates the ignition switch, seat and headstock lock. Searched around and one of the usual sellers had one. Of course “International Shipping” was more than the key, but what the hell, “it’s only money”.

The vendor posted it promptly and I got the tracking number. 24 hours later it was in Chicago, on November 29th. Where it sat. A few days ago it appears to have been discovered, but still in the building, +40 days later!!  Going in circles? What are my chances???

USPS likes to let packages "sleep" for a bit. I bought a shock from a guy in Virginia,  it landed somewhere and had a nap for about a week before it started moving again.

Brush removal pisses me off. Been a cold last few days. 35 20 and 18 the oldest boy (14) and I have been cleaning up the land at the new house. That brush pile I. The yard is every bit of 15x40. I though I was gonna burn it but there too much. I'll have to rent a dumpster when we are done clearing.

I've learned living on acreage that you need to build a decent fire pit about 6' in diameter in an open space. Pile the brush in smaller piles with the bottom of the brush facing the fire pit so it's easier to put it on the fire. Slowly feed the brush into the fire, don't want the fire to get too big so it doesn't get away from you. Keep a charged hose ready nearby.
I've been burning brush and branches for over 20 years and have learned that a giant brush fire is a really bad idea. I've seen several neighbors clear their property and pile everything into one giant slash pile just to find out that they will be in violation if they light it up. Then the pile sits there for years just like the nextdoor neighbor. His pile was done with a D6 dozer. 15 years later it's a giant green pile with all kinds of stuff growing out of it.

Here's an example of too big. ;D

I burn a pile every year.  Clippings from th vineyard plus what falls down in the woods.  Usually the only limitatiion in our county is to burn after 4PM.  Of course, in dry years we have a ban on all outdoor fires.

I have a 55 gallon drum for my tractor's 3pt paired with a PTO pump. The burn spot is too far for a hose.
