The "Contrôle Technique" or technical inspection has now been extended in France to some classes of motorcycles, scooters, 3 wheelers and quads. My 1980 XL125 goin' to town bike had it's rendez vous last week (and passed).
At the moment it's a fast visual inspection, but next year it gets tougher and the net gets extended to pretty much all classes.
Possibly as many as 50% of sports bikes in France have miniscule licence plates, turn signals the size of garden peas and the loudest pipe possible.
All of these are potential causes of failure.
Expect pissed off French motards taking to the streets to express their displeasure next year.
