^^^^^DITTO!

While we all have our own and differing viewpoints, our bikes are and should be the common thread, let's try to keep it that way.
Yes! Make SOHC4 great again! Pun intended. Keep politics out of our forum.

Conspiratorial rabbit holes at this point make me laugh. "Baaaah" -- I'm a sheep!

Not sure why the mods are letting all the bull5hit fly these days, but hey -- there's a huge number of people who want a rapist scam artist who led an insurrection and is currently facing some 91 criminal charges ( as well as losing an $83 million judgment -- after a $5 million judgment-- for defamation over one of his sexual assault victims because he couldn't keep his mouth shut) to overturn a fair election in the oval office because they think he represents "their interests." You should see the Fox interview with the president of UAW on whose interests he really serves (hint: it ain't workin' folks). Just read today that Fox viewers are unaware the network had to pay out almost $800 million for defaming Dominion -- no wonder they're so misinformed! The world is flat and the moon is made of cheese!

Have at it boys!
Will you and all the other political junkies just keep your mouth shut and try and keep this place a fun place to hang out. Have your little spats via a PM please !!  Hear enough of this crap in other places.

Absolutely, all for it. Trying to prove a point -- seems like one side had been posting political stuff for a while with no pushback, and I posted the same message as you -- let's stay on topic. It was kind of a test, but maybe the other side will stay within the lines too now.

Just as I was cleaning up for the day (sort of), noticed a few drops of oil under the tank. I put two litres of oil in a few days ago and despite really cleaning the fittings and installing new aluminum washers, it appears the bottom (inside) tank one is “drooling”. Piss me off……

So I've been needing some new glasses and been thinking about it for the last few months.  My frames are looking pretty shabby and the blue light protective coating is flaking off the lenses.  I got this current pair in Sep. 2019 and they've served me well.  A couple of weeks ago I noticed a couple of cracks in the frame, at the inside corners on both sides of the nose piece.  I gave them a little super glue and made an appointment last week to see an eye doctor.   I went in Monday morning.  Everyone was nice.  Doc was cool.  Got a new prescription for some dual power progressives and picked out some frames.  They told me it would take about two weeks to get the glasses.  Paid a $75 copay and I was out the door.

Tuesday afternoon I got in the truck to run an errand.  I reached for my glasses cleaning cloth to wipe off some fingerprints on the lenses and one of the lenses falls in my lap.  One of the cracks I glued busted through.  I went back in the house, super glued it again and wrapped it with tape, nice and tight.  I grabbed some old spare readers and left to do my errand.  I knew the glue would be dry by the time I got back.  I just needed to get a couple of more weeks out of these old glasses.

Well, yesterday I got a text saying my new glasses were in.  Cool!  That was fast!  I drove into town to pick them up this afternoon.  I went in, told them why I was there and sat down as the attendant got them ready for me.  She came out with the glasses on a little presentation tray, and I put them on and looked in the mirror.  Great!  Looked good I could see well.  I looked down at my hand and it was blurry.  Of course, I was surprised and told the attendant that I could not see up close.  She asked me to read a card and I couldn't.   I told her that the glasses seemed like they were only single power lenses, and they were supposed to be progressives.  She's looking all confused and asked one of the other ladies to help here.  They disappear to the back for a few minutes only to emerge, stating they entered the prescription into the computer wrong.  They had ordered the glasses as single power lenses, and it was going to be an additional "? hundred dollars" for the progressive lenses.  She finished her explanation, and I asked her, "Did you say 'A' hundred dollars or $800?"   She said, "$800".  I promptly told them I couldn't afford that.  They threw some alternative options at me for $600 and $250 for bifocals.  I rejected them all, because I knew I could get them online for a lot cheaper, which is what I'm going to do.  I just need to check with the insurance company to see how to file a claim.  They refunded my $60 copay for the glasses.

Talk about being let down.  I thought I was going to get my new glasses and get on down the road.  Nothing is easy anymore.

Budman.
That is a major hassle. A eye doctor done something similar to me when I was a kid. I couldn't see the chalkboard so I just had to accept the glasses because I was missing pretty much the entire class due to not being able to see and not enough time to take the notes at the end of class. Been in both inner city and small town schools. I can say kids that need a little bit of help have a much better chance of getting it in a smaller town.

I'm 33 now and in my 20s they tried to get me trifocals they had some type of test lens and I quickly realized that my vision changing that much at a glance killed my depth perception esp laying under a car.
Idk how you do it but kudos to you bc I can't. I wear contacts most of the time. I can't even really deal with bifocals they give me splitting headaches after a few days. Esp when I play with the kids wear im looking up and down a lot.

Here in desert the blowing dust eliminated me from being able to wear contacts...the eye irritation was too much...that was when I lived in the city of Tucson years ago. Never went back to contacts, I wonder if it would be cheaper as buying two pairs of glasses these days even at Costco is over $450 which is just too much money to afford at one time...
I don't do credit cards and trip back East for my Mom's 85 bday wiped out my financial cushion...was over $1000 for trip...flying was going to be over $1400...

Walmart has a deal for $99 single power glasses they're cheap frames but they always keep them in stock I think the last time my boy broke his they were only $17 to replace the frame. That was the third time he broke them in 6 months.....
Had a nicer set but after the first pair insurance doesn't cover anything for 12mos.

It shouldn't be too much more for bifocals. I'd call your local Walmart vision center and find out. This was a couple years back we got the 99 dollar deal. But I replaced the frame for under 20 as recently as last year.

May be worth checking out.

If cataracts are causing you your problems and you’re old enough you may qualify for implants..Yeh, I was the same way, you’re not ever going to touch my eyes. Always being blessed with the vision that one could read the serial number at the bottom of the eye test chart. That all changed in a few years by a fast growing cataract on the center of one eye. First noticing the degradation when my vision slipped to 20-20. In a few years later and several $1400 progressive, transition, reflective, glare, coated, etc, etc lenses,  one eye tested 20-35 corrected. Our drivers licenses are jerked with anything less than 20-35 corrected.

My options were surgery or walk..I opted for the multi-focal both Eye implants for the best chance of post uncorrected vision with the best depth perception. Post Visions test uncorrected left eye 20-15 right eye 20-20. My eyes can focus from about 12” to infinite, Able to read outdated phone books again. My doctor is very happy with my results, as understandably I am. It’s NOT as good as what the good lord originally blessed me with but it’s not to bad.  The multifocals were not covered fully in my insurance plan. Only an amount equal to a mono focal lense type  (Medicare type offered) was covered at 100% if one was old enough at the time.

I opted for the 10k multifocal lenses that also corrected any stigmatizes and restored depth perception. All hoping to end the revolving door $1400 semi yearly glass’s fiascal and near non existent depth perception. After At least $7,500 out of pocket expense, I can again hop trot effortlessly down flights of stairs. Play catch with the grandchildren and nephews with out eating one.. Depth perception is back where at a glance you can tell if the ditch is 4 inches deep or 4 feet on the dirt bike 😁. No more beach ball or volleyball sized Basketballs after faulty eye glass prescriptions..

Drawbacks: Bright sunshine reminds you of when you were 6 and walked out side at high noon summer sunshine..
I notice some eye fatigue after 16 hours that I never remembered before…Wearing good sunglasses out doors helps with the fatigue but doesn’t prevent it. It’s a lot better two years in now, than it was..

Hardest part to accept, a computer and robot performed all the measurements, lense selections, and surgery…😳😳😳

I had great eyesight until I hit 45.  I started wearing weak cheaters to read, see small details up close, etc.  Eventually I had to get stronger ones, but then I couldn't see the computer screen clearly.  I went to the eye doctor in 2019 and he hooked me up with the progressives.  They are essentially a dual powered cheater.  Now I need to wear them to see the TV across the room.  At about 25-30 feet I can see with the same level of clearness with glasses on or off.  My long-distance vision has gotten a little weaker, but the progressives aren't good for driving or long distances.  I can still see good enough to drive and ride the motorcycle, but I don't like to drive at night anymore.  Low light affects me, even when I walk into a darker room.  I had to quit wearing sunglasses.

It's fortunate you found a solution that worked.  I don't have cataracts...or Rincolns.  They took some photos of the backs of my eyes.  All clear.  The eye doc said I had some good-looking eyes.  I'm just upset I went through the whole process only to have them get the glasses order wrong and then want to charge me $800 to get what I thought I was going to get in the first place.

Motivational speakers piss me off. Yesterday I had to attend a “Town Hall” meeting with 334 other unfortunates and after sitting through a boring “Back to work” spiel from a general, spent another hour and 15 minutes listening to some wanker telling us all how to increase our productivity and improve our lives. Absolute verbal diarrhoea. How people get sucked in to paying to listen to these clowns who are only trying to sell their books on unproven theories beats me.

Some  folks just got up and walked out, but sadly I was sitting next to my boss who was at least feigning interest, so I had to sit there and just count down until the idiot out front finally shut the fcuk up and we could get out of there. Luckily I had my phone with me so could check ot FB and Ebay etc until it was all over. Was worse than church. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Too funny  ;D

Sounds like the MG Car Club meetings I used to go to. Turns out the club was a bunch of old in the head windbags that liked to hear themselves talk, not work on the cars and drive the hell out of them. They preferred to pay someone else to fix their car and take credit for it. They got all mad at me when I told them one of the reasons they couldn't attract new younger members was the fact that going to a meeting was about as fun as going to the grandparents for dinner. 8)

Yeah mate, sounds like the one and only BMW Motorcycle Club meeting I went to when I joined 30 years ago. I’m still a member only because I need to be in a club to get my cheap club plates for my old bikes, but am in no hurry to attend another club meeting. ;D

Yeah you’d reckon that, but it was just my old 12V “Dumb” charger. It was completely flat so it wouldn’t respond to my modern “Smart” chargers. Funnily enough my battery tester says it’s “good” now. Pity it won’t fit in the battery box now. Just ordered a new one. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Don’t over-feed your batteries, or they’ll suffer from morbid obesity…. Bugger. ;D

That reminds me of when I was young and dumb, im not young anymore though. I got tired of my flashlight batteries going dead all the time, so I decided to "build" a charger. I used a block of wood and drove 2 nails in it that the D cell would fit between. Took a piece of lamp cord with a male plug on one end and the wire stripped bare on the other end. Can you see where this is going? I wrapped one bare end around one nail and the other one around the other end then held the contraption in the bench vise. I clamped it on the wood of course because I'm not stoopid. Plugged it into the 110volt wall plug and I was sure that it would put the electricity back into the battery, I mean, what could go wrong? It started buzzing and I was so freaking  proud of my genius invention. After about 20 or 30 seconds the whole thing exploded to my surprise. After a quick check for shrapnel I cleaned it up and hid everything in the trash so my dad wouldn't find it and ban me from the garage.

So I guess that I owe every year after 11 to the fact that God looks over orphans and idiots, and I was raised by my parents! Your milage may vary!!!!!!

Ha ha, well I’d give you an “A” for effort Jim, but 110V into a 1.5(?) V olt battery is always going to end badly. I remember using my boss’s oxy welder to braze some Royal Enfield engine mounts on the floor of the workshop when the concrete below it exploded when I was 14, luckily the boss wasn’t there, so I packed away the welder and pretended that I was never there…. ;D

I don’t understand why that didn’t work? It’s actually amazing we all got older!! Thanks for a good laugh, both of you.

Terry, nice sealed AGM with plenty of hydrogen gas inside swelling it up… what HondaMan reports is hydrogen is stupid expensive to create or break down water or make through chemical reactions and hydrogen just isn’t efficient even in modern motor design…
Hindenburg has nothing on that motobatt…

Thanks David, I was surprised that it wasn’t floating 6 inches off the bench with all that Hydrogen inside it! Surprisingly the (at least) 4 year old Yuasa battery out of my “new” Ducati responded well to charging on the same charger and appears to have come back from dead flat, so that was a win. The “Super Duper” 2 year old lithium battery that was in the red bike is dead. ;D

Yeah lithium batteries do not respond well if not kept balanced and they require a specific feeding and care, many won't do the legwork to maintain them. I have 2 dead agm batteries out of my VStrom killed the 1st original battery by going into a depressive cycle and not riding all year. 2nd one same thing! Did a tailspin after getting told I had Barrett's esophagus and you are a small step away from developing esophagial cancer and that is a nasty way to die. I was able to reverse it but had Si gotten esophagial cancer I would have ended it as the life expectancy is short and it is disfiguring to have the surgery and your quality of life is awful while you are here...
I broke the cycle this fall so I ordered a battery and was going to try to revive the last agm but doubt it is possible. Overcharging causes the battery acid to boil off and that leads to the hydrogen gas
