I got my "Home and contents" insurance renewal today. It's increasing by a whopping 29.3%! The Australian Bureau of Statistics says the current CPI is 2.7%. As Mark Twain famously said, "There are lies, damned lies and statistics".

Jeez Terry! Ours just came in at +15% and I’m annoyed. Here it’s insurance companies and Banks. Biggest crooks of all!

Insurance agent  broker I use scheduled a phone call before my policies renewed & warned me to expect 20-40%.
Oddly enough no increase guess God smiled on me

I'm hesitant about bring this subject up BUT if you say nothing then nothing changes so here goes.

I know this is an American forum but lots of members come from other places and for some reason unknown to me Americans tend to say the year of the bike and not it's model number. They also have a really frustrating habit of not even say what bike it is, look how many titles are listed as stuff like for example " My K1 is poorly, I need a fork ear for a K0" etc, there are LOADS of model called K1 and K0, same as F1 and F2 etc. In the 70s I believe it was a US requirement for bikes to have a VIN plate with year of manufacture, most of the rest of the world didn't get VIN plates, so saying it's a 74 550 means not a lot to anyone not in the USA. Is it a 550K1 or 550K2 or a 550F1/2 etc, there are huge differences between those models, mostly cosmetic I'll admit but it's confusing for us in the UK for example who will always give the model number in full, if we are after a petrol tank for a CB550F2 that's what we will ask for due to the differences in paintwork, fork ears were different between the F1 and F2 as were clocks etc.

We also have CB500K1 bikes sold in 1976 for example, old stock that was slow to move, so referring to a 76 500 on here would probably make members think it's a 500K3 and those are a lot different than a K1.

Just looking for a little clarity that's all.

well I for one am glad you got that off your chest!you think thats enough to be pissed off about?well my wifes little Hyundai she bought new in 1999 just #$%* its automatic transmission, the car has a lot of kilometers 260000 but the motor is great and the body and paint are so perfect, this HAS to be the only one owner of this model in the world we never see them on the road here anymore, its slipping crap in drive and no reverse gear, itll cost too much to get it rebuilt and i wouldnt trust a used auto if we could find one, damn shame as its in otherwise bloody great condition throughout,so the hunt is on for a newer car, which pisses me off!!

Inexpensive new Hyundai and Kia models are not recommended as they are frequently having engine failures due to an oiling problem...the change out so many motors on them that friend's son who was hired by Tucson Hyundai shop has him swapping motors every day on Kia and Hyundai models. The motors are interchangeable and it is extremely common. So bad dealers change motors for free if you have maintenance on vehicle since new at dealer, manufacturer is warranting the motors...

Sorry your wife's car has died and you are having to shop for a new one...

Dave….. Under the circumstance, flush the tranny and fill it with some fresh fluid and miracle transmission sauce? I got an extra 50k out of something similar…. Ancient Peugeot 504.

The Honda CR-Vs with CVT transmission apparently can have transmission failure after a fluid change. Friend owns one and recently discovered that discouraging tidbit when he was considering a fluid change on their recently acquired CR-V. Naturally the wife unit is giving him endless crap over this discovery and it did not come up as a potential issue for the cars when he researched them before they bought it a little over a year ago. He is debating of skipping the fluid change because of this. Fluid isn't burnt or anything, just vehicle is getting a lot of miles...
Apparently rebuilding the CVT transmissions is not easy nor is it something that gives you long life after rebuild...
A little engineering obsolescence designed into the vehicle...

Lots of cars out there get power train swaps from other makes, generally on cars people want to hang onto or have a following... Often done as performance upgrades...or just to get away from a problematic or old power train.  Not that you are gonna find many small car power trains suitable for your old Kia. Not would it be worth the investment unless you could pick up a good wrecked modern car to do the swap from that had a rear or hard side impact that didn't affect the power train of the donor.

How's your search for the replacement going?

Mice that invade some how every fall/winter piss me off. Weather finally turning cooler and mice have found their way back inside. It is an old 70s double wide trailer I rent so who knows how but they find their way inside. Too many inaccessible areas where they could do so. Guess it is trap them into extinction, tons of desert rats around, not enough non-venomous snakes or feral cats around to control the population.

That’s a shame! My wife’s Sante Fe Hyundia went the same route. The auto transmission coupling that drives the  transfer case shaft (All Wheel Drive) stripped internally. Suffered through a few winters with an excellent set of Michelin snow tires. Last summer the AC stopped working. Two ruptured flex hoses. Hyundai listed the hoses for +$1200. It’s someone else’s winter beater now.

SWMBO here has a tiny 2003 Kia sedan that has had some similar transmission issues. I'm not sure if there were changes in those few years, but I can offer the info that solved this one and kept it on the road.

When the auto transmission would drive in first and maybe even second, it would never shift up to 3rd or the OD 4th. There is a ground wire attached to the top of the belt guard at the top left side of the engine, this belt guard was rotting out and no longer providing a good chassis ground to the engine or transmission. We ran 3 or 4 other ground wires from the engine block to the left shock tower, and suddenly the transmission was shifting normally again. There is a solenoid that shifts into 3rd and OD4th that wasn't getting power due to the bad ground.

Hopefully this helps.

I moved my merc to the winter stable and stoped paying taxes (so you have to keep it on your property) and now the weather turned into a late summer. That pisses me off. On the other hand, if i had not done it it would be snowing for sure.

Got back to working on my house. Got the kitchen cabinets up except over the stove and got the gas stove plumbed in.

Forgot to run 110v through the cabinet box over the place the range should be.
As well as my help has gotten sick with covid so back on the slow down.

If I even buy another home I won't remodel while living there. That's for sure.

This weekend I have things taking up all my time after work so no work can happen till Monday. Then Tues I'm busy again....

The lack of time pisses me off.

That is a shame Dave, they’re fantastic little cars, the wife’s old green 1996 4 door is still going great at 260,000 km, but it’s a manual so not much goes wrong with them. I don’t think there are that many “enthusiasts” out there as they were only ever a cheap and cheerful little econobox, but the wife loves both her Excel and Accent, so for the Excel I’ve bought a new exhaust, 2 door handles, oil and filter, and I might even lash out and replace the (probably original) fuel and air filters and spark plugs. There are heaps of them at the wreckers here in Melbourne, I wonder what a good used auto transmission would cost? ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I wanted some Drag Specialties marker lights, so I ordered from JP cycles that were nearby in Iowa. My parts were well priced and by adding an oil filter I got free shipping that arrived quickly so no complaints there. I noticed it came from New Jersey and had ads for other suppliers in the box. Apparently, they have been swallowed up by a big company. I figured when John Parham passed, and the museum went away this could be next.
It looks like it's part of Revzilla, includes a web site common tread and there's no Iowa store. There are several stores around the country though. They say they offer tire mounting and balancing.

Got it ready for whatever comes next. One of these days that plow is just going to fall off the old 1980 FORD F350. It’s so rotten underneath I’m sure I could dismantle the entire truck with a hammer……

Walking up the driveway (after I running it back down to the barn), I noticed a few long streaks of fluid on the gravel!! Did  the “taste test” and didn’t seem bitter and scream brake fluid, but I wonder if I popped another line?? I did give it a quick wash, so hopefully it just unloaded some water? Will have a look tomorrow. This could definitely piss me off.

RevZilla, JP Cycles, Cycle Gear are owned by Comoto Holdings, Z1 Enterprises, Randakk's, Dime City, and Mike SXS are owned by the same company...  I think CognitoMoto is owned by same group of guys that started it...

Comoto was the brainchild of few of guys at RevZilla and some others...
They own several of the gear brands carried by their companies. They own the Rever ride app too...

Not going to bother. The old truck has a working heater and windshield wipers. As long as it hangs together I’ll keep it ready.
