Dave - I got them cheap  ;D
But the 1100 does seem a bit 'sharper'...but that could just be my imagination. I won't get around to changing the 750 ones back until next Saturday, so see what happens.

TB - they are at .2mm...you think that is ok?
Pete, do you mean 1.2mm, if so that is too wide for the standard ignition (0.2mm wouldn't run), they need to be about .8mm.  If you do regap them be very careful to not knock the tip off the centre electrode.

oops, hang on, maybe I was looking at the imperial feeler gauge...maybe it was .2inches.....which would put it at about .6mm....
Yeh obviously .2mm is sfa. My bad.

Just double check the gaps Pete, if we're talking imperial you want to be about 0.031" or 0.8mm in metric ;)

Dave, it's not so much a miss as a stutter or sneeze.  Just a slight unevenness at idle.  All VN's-VR's did it, the only fix I have found was platinum plugs.  I used to own a VP myself and it drove me nuts, never affected the way it ran, it would still do 210kph in 3rd.  It just sounded horrible, like all the early commodore V6's.

Oh ffs.....I just checked my feeler gauges....it would appear that the .2, .25 and .3mm gauges were stuck together, so I was measuring .75, which is near enough to correct.
This is why I am not a mechanic  :-[
Now I'm pissed off cos I'm so embarrassed.

you must have bad fuel your way or something?the pack under the coils goes off,the coils check fine but fire #$%*ty,its an imbalance hooked into the ecu, these are old cars now and this stuff is just turning up now, this late model crap pisses me off,you have to swap expensive parts to be sure, like all of the electronics, then youll still be wrong?having the correct gap helps.

Don't worry about it Pete, I picked up a set of feeler guages last week to set some valves at work.  After setting them I thought they felt a little loose, checked the guages again and realised I was looking at the inch markings, not the metric marks. :-[

Dunno what it is Dave, all I know is damn near every pre ecotec commodore I have looked at since I started my trade has the same stutter. ???

No falter Dave, engines run fine.  Plenty of power and smooth delivery from idle to redline.  Just every couple of seconds at idle they make a sound like a slight miss, but they aren't missing.   Just sounds horrible to someone who likes a smooth running engine.  Most people don't notice it ;)

I won a set of NGK Iridium plugs for a "Letter of the Month" to Spannerman at AMCT a few years ago Pete, and had the same experience as you.

An expert here told me that Iridium plugs don't like the stock CB750 resistor plug caps, so I changed the leads for Bosch 8mm silicon leads and caps (Dyna 3 Ohm coils) and it made no fcuking difference, so they're still here, sitting on a shelf.

If your plugs are fouling due to a rich mixture (which you'll get if you set your carbs up as per the Honda manual, but with modern fuel) change them from D8's to D7's, and you won't have a problem.

Lastly, you need me to teach you about revenge. If someone wrongs you like that jerk did, follow him home by all means, but don't abuse him, ride past and go back at 3am and burn his fcuking house down, with him and his family inside.

If you can wait a few months, even better, with his attitude he'll have pissed off other folks in the interim, and he'll probably have forgotten about your incident. If he survives........... ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

haha Terry, I did think of something like that....I had some old brake fluid here that would suit his toffy top of the range VW 4WD.........

The old 8's I had in the 750 before putting in the iridiums, were fairly well ok most of the time, just now and then I'd get a bit of fouling on cold starts (ie with choke), but generally ok. I mistakenly thought the iridiums might fix that..... ::)
I've just bought a set of 8's which will go in on Saturday, see how it goes.
Cheers  :D

Lemme tell you what pisses me off.......

I was sitting at my computer deeply concentrating on studying Aircraft systems.....

While listening to music to block out the distractions around here.

I completely forgot the time and that Dave500 was coming by.....

So...poor Dave sits downstairs Hollering...rings my phone....knocks....

I hear none of this and Dave leaves....but not before leaving the 6 pack of beer he brought on my workbench.....

Don't I feel like a tool? You bet

well i dont get pissed off too often but when i do its usully because of the douche that overtightened the oil filter (which then must be removed by three garden gnomes using tiny jack hammers), oh and yeah that douche? me. one thing i do find curious is the amount of people that own m/c's  .that have never crashed, knocked over, backed into or otherwise done any damage to their used motorcycle....i have personally crashed no fewer that 9 motorcycles since i started riding at age 10....im now 50.im sure there are some i just dont remember .  one unfortunate 1978 honda 750 k was brutalized 3 times in traffic  finally resulting in that  machines retirement. dont even want to talk about my first h2 750 which i called "scar tissue". point is there is no shame in paying your riding dues with your bikes skin and bones but there is no way that "previous owner" could have racked up so much damage . if ya want blame me my name is brent ...im the previous ownrer! thanks for listening :o

G'Day Brent, don't be too hard on yourself mate, I bought my first CB750 new in 1978 (superseded F0) and the poor (but fugly) thing spent more time on it's sides than it did on it's tyres, I reckon?

The "Last Straw" was when I hit a gutter @ 90 MPH (drunk of course) went over a large bush, and hit a "Give Way" (Yield) sign pole 4 feet above the ground and bent it at right angles as it slid across the road on it's alternator cover. I managed to break all my ribs on my left side, but was so whacked that I didn't notice, so I pulled the bike back onto it's wheels and pushed it two miles home.

I repaired it myself (new tank, alternator cover, points cover, handlebars, fender, muffler etc) and traded it in on a car, I'd only had it for 10 months and had crashed it heavily at least 3 times that I can remember, and one of my mates dropped it as well, so whoever bought a yellow F rego No LP-942 in December 1978, I feel sorry for you, and by the way, I never had the first service done either, so it might need an oil change? Oops......... Cheers, Terry. ;D
