Yeah, the problem with a lot of small business owners is that they may have been really good at whatever they did when they were working for someone else, but when they're suddenly the boss and can make up the rules as they go along, things go pear-shaped.
I drove my green Subaru the 200 miles to my home town last Saturday and left at 07:00 so I could get there with plenty of time to get a new set of tyres fitted, as I was giving the car to my mum, and while the tyres are still roadworthy, they're probably 10 years old.
I stopped at a "Bursons" store (big box car parts store) and bought some parts for my white Subaru, (Rally Roo) then straight to the tyre shop. I arrived at 10:45, and the guy told me I was too late, as they closed at 11:00. WTF? This is a small country town with high unemployment, yet the tyre stores all close at 11:00 on a Saturday? How fcuking dumb is that?
OK, so I drive around to the only locksmith in town as I want to get a spare key cut for mum's car, and once again, they're closed? Fcuk this, I walked around to the barber shop and got my hair cut (12 bucks, bargain!) then picked Mum up and took her out to lunch at the Metung Pub. If I had a small business (especially a car or motorcycle related business) I'd open late and close late, and open all weekend, so that people could get what they needed after work and on weekends.
I really can't see the importance of closing early every Saturday if they're trying to build a successful business? It's no wonder that most small businesses go tits up................
