Lot of eastern Europeans around here; I can usually tell fairly well what part of Europe they're from.

Your all full if #$%*, I believe the Vikings were first foreigners (in the America's), they were just exploring, like real men. then the Spaniards and Portuguese but they were just looking for riches to steal, end up killing off most of the Mayan and incas if not literally than with foriegn disease. Then came the English ironically enough, supposedly in an effort to escape oppression and gain religious freedom. The part that pisses me off is the fact they have be shoving Christianity as the relgion every since.

I bet if the American Indians had it to do over they would have killed the English when they had the chance.

The thing about the above history is, my grandfathers family tree on my moms side, with the sir name "duke" had been in the Tennessee region atleast 100 years longer than history will acknowledge Eastern  Europeaners being there.

Information handed out everywhere, It's all propaganda, the slant depends on where it comes from, there is no such thing as unbiased

Well you don't have to be pissed because I did know that after all. ;D  I read Simon Leys book about the Batavia several years ago most of which took place on a group of islands off the west coast.   A very grizzly story but I remember the only ones to reach the mainland were some of the crew who abandoned the others in a ship's boat.  They eventually reached Indonesia and a ship was sent for the survivors.   I don't need to google anything as Terry implied as I have an extensive library of books on the Age of Exploration.  Yeah, real books, does anybody read those anymore? :-\  Cook's biography is siting on the bookshelf 5 feet away from me.  As I remember (it's been a few years) but Abel Tasman mapped the north coast of Australia in 1644 on his second voyage but yeah, on his first voyage he did not see Australia.  So I don't know where I was wrong on anything.  Saying Cook discovered Australia is just like saying Columbus discovered North America.  It's just not accurate regardless of what folks want to believe.

You guys need to be a bit less prickily...if you wanna dish it out like in Terry's earlier post you have to take it too. ;)  I"m outta here for awhile so don't think I ran away to hide if I don't show up for a bit. ;D

It's a proven fact that the Vikings were the first Europeans in North America.  We even have the  Kensington Runestone to show they made it to Minnesota (if it's not a fake). ;D  It pisses me off the Columbus gets the credit and not my ancestors. I am a third generation Viking American. ;D

What pisses me off today is people who boast about owning "An extensive library of books", and ask if we remember real books? You know, like the ones they have in libraries, book stores, your work place, etc? Geez, the internet has only been around for the last 20 years Steve, (I'm guessing, because I couldn't be bothered googling it) and most of us here are older than the internet, so, er, yeah!

The other thing that pisses me off is posers who say that they're third generation Vikings, when Vikings haven't existed for hundreds of years. A third generation Viking would be at least 900 years old! What a load of #$%*e! Regardless of the fact that Vikings no longer exist, why do people boast about their ancestral past? I mean, if your daddy was a pedophile, would you proudly announce to the world that you're a second generation child molester?

Don't you have something that you've done, that you could boast about? Like maybe you're really good at spelling, or that your farts could drop a Moose at 100 paces? Man that pisses me off! ;D
