Hey Mick, have you been up to Nhulunbuy? I spent a month or so there in 1995 working with our indigenous soldiers from Norforce on exercise Kangaroo '95. It would have, without a doubt, the best beaches in Oz, but everywhere I walked, all I saw (apart from Dingo's, Buffalo's and Taipans.........) was massive footprints from where the big Saltwater Croc's came out of the surf. At least sharks aren't a problem there, the Croc's ate them all long ago! Cheers, Terry,

Terry, It's one of the few places that I've never been to mate.
An old mate of mine who passed on a few years ago had been living and working over there and we always talked about a fishing trip but those plans got cut short.

Everybody who's ever been there says how magic the place is.
That fella on the NT News link (Galarrwuy Yunupingu) is the older brother of Mandawuy Yunupingu from Yothu Yindi.
I think that our Mick (RR) has a sister who works over that way on one of the Mine sites.

Back in the 80's a fella by the name of Gerry Blitner who was the Chairman of the Northern land Council, an old croc hunter and a land rights campaigner, bought some turtle soup into work for us after we fixed his car.
It wasn't a bad feed for a change.

There were a lot of characters around back in those days.
We had all sorts coming and going back then throughout the 80's & 90's.
Everyone from the NT Chief Minister (Marshal Perron) to the Hells Angels heavyweights.

It pisses me off that those days are gone now.

You'll have to go Mick, it was like a wild west town, lots of cashed up white fella's with flash cars, bikes and boats, and heaps of abos, er indigenous people, who were permanently drunk.

There were bugger-all shops there in 1995, except a Safeway supermarket with it's own bottle shop, which would have a 500 metre line of indigenous people outside on most mornings.

I remember having to swerve my army landrover around an indigenous couple who were "getting it on" in the middle of the street outside Safeway. They were a classy lot up there.......... And they pissed me off.

My sister worked at Alcan before Rio Tinto took over, she said it was awesome. Told me of a time where she went for a walk on the beach with one of the Aboriginal elders there early one morning, there were no croc slides when they left but when coming back there were huge slides everywhere, sneaky buggers those crocs...

Only a few weeks ago my youngest one was asking me if there was a Target store and K Mart etc when I first got here to Darwin.
All that was here back then that I can remember was Jack the Slasher for your tucker and 2 Gallon Bob for your cartons of piss. 

You still get approached in the street - AAhh Boss, you got thigarette for an ol'digga or Kith me like a Pilm Star and Puck me like a white lady. 
Some things aint ever gonna change.

Definately will have to trip one day mate.
It isn't that far to fly but a road trip in the Dry Season would be good.

A mate cleaned up a buffalo in a Subaru Brumby on that road.
Rephrase that - The buff cleaned up the Subaru.
The Subaru was a wreck and the old buff just wandered off into the bush and had a sh1t as if nothing had happened. 

There's some big "moo cows" out there and then the crocs are waiting for you if you do make it to the coast.

Pissed off that I was at the camp this morning and I missed the notification from DSS that they had the NOS candy apple red right fork ear in stock for my 750K1.  The friggin' thing was sold by the time I got home at noon.  Was doubly pissed off that they had sold the NOS candy apple red gas tank.  Fortunately I was able to purchase the NOS candy apple red headlight bucket.
