Or draw a vacuum thru the fork's Shrader valve then use a tube connected to the drain hole to suck up the fork oil like a straw.

Launching Goldwing fork caps into orbit pisses me off!
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

Happy birthday Pope Terry!
I had the same problem with the R when i changed the fork oil. Man it was a struggle, so after doing the lh leg, i got smarter and on the rh side just removed the air valve and poured the oil slowly down that.
Ok if you've got air assisted forks though.
When i was trying to put the lh cap back on it slipped, shot across the garage, just missing the 750 and the mini.......that would have pissed me off!

Thanks guys, I've got air assisted forks on my 'Wang, but not air caps. Mine have 1 schrader valve mounted on the rhs lower triple, but it serves both fork legs, via tiny holes in each fork tube, so your (otherwise excellent) suggestions won't work in my case, sadly.

I like Larry's idea, I have a sliding 1/2" drive T bar but no ratcheting adapter, but I've got some birthday money, so I'll invest in one. I've also got a plan in my poor tired head to make a fork spring compressor kinda like the one I made to compress rear shock springs, but a little more elegant.

Another thing that pisses me off is the stoopid handlebars Honda put on these things. In Australia back in the 1960's (from memory, so don't google it and correct me) there was a scandal where some doctors were prescribing pregnant women with thalidomide to treat morning sickness. Trouble was, it caused terrible birth defects, including really short arms, or no arms at all, or in some cases, hands growing directly out of babies shoulders.

I'm quite sure that Honda designed the GL1200 handlebars with Thalidomide victims in mind. No joke, there is no "stretch" to the bars, instead, you sit bolt upright, your upper arms sit parallel to your torso, with just your forearms at right angles, because that's all you need to hold the "tiller" bars. Dumb, and for someone like me with ape like arms, quite uncomfortable, I have to actually lean slightly backwards. What's worse though, is how they're made. The diameter of the bars at the triple clamps is 1 inch dia, but the diameter at the switchblocks is only 7/8" OD! WTF??

No wonder the bike still has the OEM bars after 27 years! I found a pair of NOS Honda 1 inch diameter bars in my garage that a well meaning friend bought for me at a Honda shop closing down sale, no idea what they're off, but they would have been ideal if it wasn't for the fact that the OEM switches, MC's etc are 7/8" ID. I did think about lopping the ends off the bars and welding in 7/8" ends, but what a dick drag!

When it cools down outside, I'm gonna machine up some "bushes" that fit around standard 7/8" dia bars and mount some CB750 (or similar) bars and see how it goes. And hopefully, I won't be as pissed off with the riding position, on an otherwise wonderful murder-sickle! Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Ya know, I've never considered buying a 'wang. And after reading Uncle Pope Birthday Boy Terry's love of said bike, I now know I will never buy one!
And that does not piss me off.

Steve, you have to ride one before you write them off like that. I bought a 1975 "naked" wing in 1982, it'd been around the world at least twice, but was still as smooth as silk, and it'd eat a CB750 from a standing start, or roll-on drag race. Yeah, I know, it's 1000cc's so it should, but a lot of folks only see them as big fat tourers, and they are a lot more versatile than that.

They're very popular at the moment with the "Cafe Set", which might seem a bit strange, but they actually go around corners pretty good, and lets face it, unless you go looking for windy bits of road, you can travel for hundreds of miles on most highways without finding one corner. When it comes to riding long distances (and everything's bigger in Texas, yeah?) you can't beat them.

One of the reasons I want to slot my spare 1200 engine into my 1977 "Naked" wing, is that they have an "overdrive" 5th gear, so instead of being the usual 1:1 drive ratio, it's 0.8:1, so the engine is only pulling 3000 RPM @ 60 MPH, and surprisingly, if I give the throttle a tug at those RPM's, it responds instantly, so will be fun in my much lighter naked. Tim Kaspers (KGhost here) has a really nice GL1000 Cafe, and loves it! (well, I haven't seen or heard of him since he moved from texas to Oz, I hope a Dingo didn't get him?)

Anyway, you took my advice and moved up from those girly 550's to the mighty CB750, so take my word for it mate, do yourself a favour, and get yourself a 'Wang. Sure, if they're not maintained they're a PITA, but the worst 'Wang you could buy there would be better than the way mine was when I bought it, so you can't go wrong. Cheers, Terry. ;D

The Pope is always right- Terry's assessment of the older Wings is right on.  The early ones were fast and considering the size handled fairly well. Go to the naked goldwing site http://www.ngwclub.com  Stev-o.  There are some awesome bikes on that site...Larry

Thanks guys, and after a couple of days away from here, it's nice to: 1. See some posts, 2. See that someone agrees with me about Wangs (thanks Larry) and 3. wish me a happy birthday!

I was gonna have a whine about the wife watching Pommy police "Cop-Opera's" on my Plasma TV, but you've all made me so happy, it seems a bit futile now. Oh well, I'll save it for later........... ;D

Hill roads are no problem on a naked 'Wang Stevo, and once you ride one, you won't be able to get your wallet out fast enough! Also, they're not expensive. A guy had a '78 model with only 7K miles and totally original for only 600 bucks to any fellow NGW member last week. I asked him if he still had it, and he just laughed at me, and that pissed me off.................... ;D

A mate of mine has a 1200 wang and his only complaint is the mufflers are too low, they scrape too soon in the corners.  He can keep with my 650 through the twisty stuff and I have a hell of a lot more lean angle than he does ;D.

I was such a big tough manly bikie in those days.....hahah. I wasn't scared of bikes, I was road racing in those days, but that ride scared me. That pissed me off. :o
