you boys need to upgrade to drum brakes up front while your at it. chick magnet stuff right there.
I'm just pissed,  :D

My first Falcon, a 1967 XR (ex-cop car, white exterior, blue vinyl interior, rubber floormats, bench seats and 3 on the tree) had unboosted drums front and rear, and I was always surprised that I did so many round trips from Melbourne to Sydney without shoving it up someone's arse.

I don't know if it was a chick magnet, but it made my missus scream when I had to go "off road" on the Mulgrave Freeway from 60 MPH to avoid a sudden traffic jam. I pulled up alongside the tenth car from the back, so it would have been an expensive lesson about the effectiveness of unboosted drum brakes, as I didn't have insurance back in those days either.

It didn't have a fan heater, or power steering, or aircon either, it really was a simple old device........ ;D

A brother of mine has a 67 Corvair, the rear engined pancake 6 is long gone and up front is the front subframe frame from a 69 Nova with a 350 SBC setting between the fenders and Vette rear end. Single circuit manual drums on all 4 and no power steering makes for a white knuckle ride when wanting to slow down quickly. Most drag strips have 2 pull off areas after going through the speed trap, one is for slower street cars and another farther down for full tilt drag cars that need room to slow down. The car is currently turning high 12 sec ET's so it's by no means a full tilt drag car but because of it's lame brakes he takes the pull off lane at the very end. He could make the first one if he really wanted to but he has to literally stand on the brakes to do it. He keeps messing with the car to make it quicker but for years I've told him he needs to take a break on the need for speed for a bit and at least put power assist front discs on it.

And EH Holdens with a HR Disc Brake front end, lowered, 7" mags, extractors and a chrome swan on the bonnet.  8)
You had to put those 9/16" rear wheel cylinders on as well so that the arse end didn't lock up.
Also a chromed glove box lid so that you could look up the sheilas skirts when they came for a ride.  ;D

I know that Mick, google told me.  It also showed me a picture which is how I knew it was very similar to the one we fitted to the old Studebaker ;)

The 350 coupled to a Saginaw 4 speed with a Mickey Thompson shifter.  ;D

The Muncie was a good box mate.
I seem to remember rebuilding one of those on the kitchen table back in the 70's.
That was when a heap of us lads shared a house in Adelaide and there was no missus to squawk about the gearbox oil all over the floor.  ;D

All we could afford back then were the ol' banjo diffs that use to get spat out like there was no tomorrow.
They were cheaper than the 10 bolt Salisburys and plentiful back then.

The Muncie was a good box mate.

I had an LH Torana with a 253 an M21 and banjo, the gearbox and diff used to race each other to see who would blow up first  :o ;D

The best one I had was a celica 5 speed that as I hit second cracked the bottom completely out of the box and dropped the layshaft onto the road. It was a little hard to explain to the old man how it had happened when he came to tow me home. The black lines on the road leading up to the pool of oil didn't really help though. I never managed to break the old bang-go though I don't know how. Though it did have quite a lot of backlash by the time it was retired. ;D

I split an opel four speed in half once no #$%*!it had a constant tick tick tick for ages and I think it had a missing tooth?im guessing it got whipped up in the oil as I was doing a hard off the line right hander and pryed the shafts apart? bang!,oil all over the place,i managed to drive it home with third gear working so long as I held the shift lever forward with as much force as was required to move the car sliding the clutch heaps,i replaced it with a Saginaw and a fresh cammed up 192,you have to belt an extra bulge in the transmission hump to clear the shifter mechanism on HK holdens,the factory fitted ones already had a hump,those rat trap clutch mechanisms piss me off!

I had a HG panel van and put Monaro guards and bonnet on it with a GTS dash and bucket seats that I put together after the breatho nailed me on the Honda.
I dropped a 253 with a 350 Holley and an Aussie 4sp into it.
That mechanical clutch was the biggest mongrol that god ever shovelled guts into.
So I put one of those Dellow hydraulic setups into it and you needed a leg like Mal Meninga to push it in.
That's it.
Out she came and dropped a Trimatic into it with a shift kit through the valve body.
That was magic until I wrapped it around a stobie pole and #$%*ed it.
The LH front wheel came into the cab still attached to the U shaped cross member.
That was an ambulance job after I head butted the windscreen and tore the ol' lolly open.  ;D

the holden hydraulic was better than the dellow set up,you don't want to hit a stobie pole,theyll cut a car in half,i used to live in Adelaide aswell(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stobie_pole)253 americans can understand and a trimatic is a turbo 180.

I've had some good motorbike come offs when we were young blokes and fear took a back seat but those bloody power poles don't move in a hurry.
That one left a few railway tracks on my head.  ;D

I'm pissed at myself at the moment. I'm doing someone a favor by rebuilding an old motorcraft 2 barrel carb for them that came off a 351C, problem is someone else has already taken it all apart. Got my fingers crossed that nothing is missing because I have way better things I could be doing this weekend.

Yeah Mick saw a picture of the poles " Baloney Slicer " I wouldn't want to hit one, mind you coming from BC our's were nice fat Douglas firs which also didn't move, one of the airmen at station Comox bent his car around the pole at about 15' off the ground totaled the car totaled him and passenger the pole was still good now of course I don't know if you can find firs any more that size.

I was pissed off about 30 years ago. I was refurbishing my then workshop, and needed a new workbench. Went up to the local builder's providers to get some suitable wood. I explained what I wanted to do to the nice man at the counter. He said "No problem, go out into the yard and ask for Douglas Fir". So I did, and asked the boyos in the yard for Mr Fir, boy how they all cracked up laughing. I felt like a prat.

Never owned a Holden either. Oops, that's a lie. I started restoring an EH a few years ago but worked out that if I sold it I could get another 6 or 7 bikes in the garage. I sold it.

We had a young fella who had just left school and was starting his apprenticeship with us.
He was keen to learn and help out and he use to like going up to Repco Auto Parts and getting bits and pieces for the boys in the workshop.

Well we found out that he had his eye on this young chick who was working behind the counter which explained his enthusiasm to go to Repco.
So one day, one of the lads sent him to Repco and told him to get him a box of sparks and a vaginal depth guage.
The poor bastard came back just a little embarrassed and was a bit wary about going to Repco after that.  ;D
