Hey Mick, how about nicking that sign and sending it to me? In return, the John Deere distribution centre is just around the corner from where I work, so I'll take a tractor for a test drive and knock off the alternator for you when I get around the corner?

Hey I saw that reflection in Dave's paint, and (this is getting spooky) thought I was looking at Joe Cocker? It still pisses me off that he's dead, but at least he's enjoying the afterlife haunting Dave's beaut HQ.......... ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Here you go Krusty, it's a 1994 Liberty AWD with a WRX twin turbo engine. I don't know much about it yet, so I can't tell you which model WRX the engine came out of, except to say that I believe it was originally a turbo car, but the engine's been replaced in the last 3 or 4 years. Cheers, Terry. ;D

I'll tell ya whats wrong with that car Terry. For one thing its listed as a wagon but its a sedan. And for another......the damn steering wheel is on the wrong side! ;D Over here that car is called a "Lancer". I've worked on a couple and they are some zippy little cars. If you have the cash to buy that used motor and have it installed you only have $2600 invested. I'm sure these cars fetch more than that. Plus like you said....you don't have to give up the old motor for a core so you can rebuild it. These engines aren't hard to work on especially when its outa the car. Like mentioned...maybe just needs reman heads. If it were to have gotten too hot....you would see cooked pistons, scuffed cylinder walls, etc. You didn't mention any knocking noises when you were running it so chances are good that it didn't get cooked before you bought it. Excellent deal for $500.

Sadly my Dad passed away yesterday. I'm not pissed off that the poor old buggers recent suffering has come to an end, but I'm disappointed that we won't have the opportunity to spend another evening sharing a bottle of good whisky, while we'd take the piss out of each other, or anyone else who came into range. Rest easy old timer, and enjoy the adventure. Cheers, Terry.

Sorry to hear, Terry.  I can relate, lost my Dad 2 years ago.  The worst thing is just not being able to pick up the phone and call for a chat.

Thanks guys, much appreciated. I've learned over the last 12 months or so that quality of life is the most important thing you can have, and when there's nothing left to look forward to in your life, it's almost cruel to keep you alive.

Medical advances over the last century have helped people live longer happier lives and that's great, but Dad had dementia, and my fear was that his body would stay alive long after his brain had died.

As I said, I'm not pissed off that his suffering has ended, but I'll miss the old bugger, for sure. Cheers, Terry.

My mum had early dementia, but mercifully she died peacefully before it became real bad. On my visits she'd often tell me that Prince Charles had been to see her, one day it was even Mick Doohan she met on one of her frequent trips to the "top of the mountain", wherever that was, but I'd just ask how they were and if they'd asked after me....which made her giggle and feel good. My dad on the other hand would correct her and say things like "I don't think so" which used to piss me off.....I'd go crook at him and tell him that if she's happy in her own little world then how the fk could that be a bad thing. Then he'd get pissed off with me of course.
Before the big C got him he too was showing very slight signs of memory lapses and confusion.....he took great pleasure in telling me, 2 days after the fact, that this bloke he knew, john, who took him for a ride on dad's bike on his 80th birthday was an excellent rider and a "natural"....he was quite bewildered when I told him that "john" was actually ME.....he couldn't believe it. He was also incapable of wising up to the evil manipulations of my b1tch of a sister..but that's a story for another day.
So yes, dementia is a sad thing, and an even sadder way to depart, especially if the victims had an active and intelligent mind in their healthy days, so I understand exactly where you're coming from Tez. Chin up buddy.

Thanks Pete, I know what you mean, Dad always had a story to tell me about the punch ups he'd had up in the nursing home, or about the bloke who pinched his shoes etc, all flights of fancy of course, it freaked me out initially, but I learned to just go along with it.

Dementia is a horrible disease which turns lovely old people into zombies eventually. Dad didn't wake up last Sunday and was unresponsive from then thru his 88th birthday on Tuesday, to when he finally expired early on Thursday morning.

He hated being at the nursing home, but he was far too frail for my 86 year old mum to look after him at home. Mum spent that last year or so with him every day, often sleeping in a chair beside Dad's bed when he was unwell. As far as I'm concerned she deserves a bloody medal, every time I walked into the nursing home I just wanted to turn around and walk out again. Cheers, Terry.

When my mum was in the nursing home I got to know quite a few of the other residents, and it was always a sad day when one of the rooms was empty or changed hands, cos you knew what had happened. I always admired the spouses of the residents, some of whom looked like they belonged there too, who would turn up at the same time every day and just sit and chat, feed them or just be there for them....very touching and true devotion.
So good on your mum Tez for being such a rock for him. He was a lucky man.

Getting old pisses me off.
