  • So, what do ya wanna talk about today?
That's a bit of a problem with your phone Kev, I wonder how many times that's happened already? I just Googled "Samsung Galaxy Burn" and found a heap of stories about a Samsung phone apparently causing a house to burn down in Hong Kong, and if your phone got hot enough to burn your leg I guess it could start a fire? I think I'd be trading up to an iPhone Kev......... ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I learn something new every time I watch those movies. A French lady who was trying to improve her English called around one evening, so I put Snatch on the home cinema. Poor lady did not believe that it was English at all. Brad Pitt as the pikey Irish traveller was totally incomprehensible to her.

She gave me one none the less.

The #$%*ing lurgy pisses me off.  I woke up at 3:30 this morning shivering my arse off and sweating bullets.  I went into work at 7:30 but had to tap out just after 1, I could barely keep my eyes open.  I am glad I did because I had a 4hr drive home and I wouldn't be capable of doing it now, which I would be doing had I stayed till 4:30 like I was meant to.  I'm just glad I'm not working away next week, and I don't have to repeat the 4hr drive on Sunday. :)

Well the weather here is pissing me off. It's cold, wet and overcast and has been for the last week or so. Fcuk me, I spent the best part of 6 hours out in my carport replacing all four brake rotors and pads, and flushing the brake fluid on my little white Subaru today, and even after a couple of hours in my lovely warm lounge, my core temperature hasn't returned.

On top of that my back and knees fcuking hurt, I guess I'm too old for this shiit, but I do like fixing my own stuff, so I'm looking for a good 20 year old body that I can get transplanted onto my handsome noggin, so I can keep working on bikes and cars for years to come! ;D

A few years ago now, the ol' boss had to go to Adelaide for triple bypass surgery on his ticker.

The surgery went well and he's still kicking goals now at 76 years of age.
Anyway, after the operation, the surgeon came in to see him to have a talk about it.

Well he told Scrim that he was pleased with the outcome and that in his opinion, he now had the heart of a 30 year old.

So Scrim then asked the Doc if he could double the bill and give him the cock of a 30 year old.
That pissed the ol' Doc off.  ;D

  • So, what do ya wanna talk about today?
Supercheap Auto pissed me off this morning. I decided to buy a better floor jack than the old KMart 1 ton jobbie that is so tired it wouldn't lift my Subaru yesterday, so I dropped into SC to buy a new one this morning. I found a big heavy duty 2500 Kg jack on special for $199, so took it to the check out, and was charged $219?

After standing around for 5 minutes while the young bloke behind the counter checked the computer, fumbled with the latest catalogue and asked his supervisor, I suggested that he just walk over and have a look at the price on the shelf?

He grudgingly followed me over to the shelf and I pointed to the card that clearly stated that the item was $199. He mumbled something about having to change the price on the computer, and spent another 5 minutes fcuking around while the line of folks behind me mumbled and grumbled, probably about me.

Eventually he sorted it out and off I went, he didn't apologise and I wasn't expecting an apology anyway, but he actually seemed pissed off that I'd somehow wasted his valuable time? I mean, what else was he planning to do at work today anyway? Or maybe I'm just getting old and crochity and should have just bent over, grabbed my ankles and given him the extra 20 bucks? Hmmmnnnnn................................. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

Yep, and don't get me wrong Pete, I don't have it in for counter staff. I worked part time at servo's for 14 years to finance my car and motorcycle addiction, er, hobby, and I met some of the biggest arseholes that God ever shovelled guts into, so I really try not to be "that guy", but some kids really think that the world owes them a living, and just coming to work is an inconvenience for them.

Anyhoo, it's all sorted now, and tomorrow I might try the jack out when I install the new stainless headers I bought for the "Rally Roo", ha ha! ;D

Yeh Tez, having trained people in sales, and the mrs owning a pretty successful retail business, we're very watchful of how we're treated when shopping or eating out, and sometimes it's pretty fkn ordinary. Like walking into a small art gallery and the bloke, who I'm pretty sure is the owner, sitting at a desk reading the paper and didn't even look up when we walked in, and we were the only ones there. I made some sarcastic remark loud enough for him to hear, like "business must be good" and he still didn't look up. He probably went home that night and kicked the cat cos business is so sh1t.
You see it all the time.
But I always make a point of acknowledging good service.

My oldest son recently got promoted to another position but before that he was a customer service tech for an internet provider that he works for, he said the biggest challenge was keeping your cool when an irate customer was on the phone because it was absolutely forbidden to get mouthy with a customer even if they desperately deserved it. The most he could do was calmly warn a customer to calm done and watch their mouths or else he'd hang up.

Ah customer service if I had a reasonable business I would have to hire someone for that function, that was good with people, my good will is sometimes in short supply. Clubbing customers with a cane tends to drive them off ( back to their nests under rock from which they came.)

Yeah, the problem with a lot of small business owners is that they may have been really good at whatever they did when they were working for someone else, but when they're suddenly the boss and can make up the rules as they go along, things go pear-shaped.

I drove my green Subaru the 200 miles to my home town last Saturday and left at 07:00 so I could get there with plenty of time to get a new set of tyres fitted, as I was giving the car to my mum, and while the tyres are still roadworthy, they're probably 10 years old.

I stopped at a "Bursons" store (big box car parts store) and bought some parts for my white Subaru, (Rally Roo) then straight to the tyre shop. I arrived at 10:45, and the guy told me I was too late, as they closed at 11:00. WTF? This is a small country town with high unemployment, yet the tyre stores all close at 11:00 on a Saturday? How fcuking dumb is that?

OK, so I drive around to the only locksmith in town as I want to get a spare key cut for mum's car, and once again, they're closed? Fcuk this, I walked around to the barber shop and got my hair cut (12 bucks, bargain!) then picked Mum up and took her out to lunch at the Metung Pub. If I had a small business (especially a car or motorcycle related business) I'd open late and close late, and open all weekend, so that people could get what they needed after work and on weekends.

I really can't see the importance of closing early every Saturday if they're trying to build a successful business? It's no wonder that most small businesses go tits up................ ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

And further to that Tez, many small business owners are only doing it cos they had to buy themselves a job after being retrenched in their 40s or 50s (eg Jims Mowing etc) and have nfi.

My mrs is in her 7th year in her current business, and it has grown every year, and I ran mine successfully for 10 years after leaving the public service in '92, then only bailed out to move interstate. So not all small businesses go tits up, but what pisses me off is the attitude a lot of people have towards those businesses....eg a couple of weeks ago I was standing outside the mrs shop and 3 old bags walked past and I heard one say, full of her own importance..."these types of businesses never last"....so I tapped her on the shoulder and said "6years lady, and the reason some of them don't last is cos ignorant people like you walk straight past and never support them". That pissed her off.
When the mrs opened her first shop in about '98, I was giving her a hand on opening day and this old carnt walked past and said "you won't be here long". Well 4 years later she sold it for a tidy sum to make that interstate move....and did we ever see that old carnt in the shop. ...of course not.
But none of this is directed at you Tez, at least you tried to support a small local business! But one reason some close early on Saturdays is the penalty rates that kick in. They kill ya. The mrs trades 7 days and the wages bill is the major expense.
