You Aussies are good for comic relief...I can hit the target with iron sights, I just like to be able to hit smaller areas, and my Mark 1 eyeballs aren't what they used to be, so a scope helps.  But I'm sure all you manly Aussies can drop a person at 100 yards with a slingshot, or a boomerang, or throwing a pint of Foster's, or whatever...

Geez mate, I'm 55 and as blind as a bat, but if I told anyone I was using a scope to hit a figure 11 target at 100 yards (especially with a sniper rifle like a Remington 700) they'd just assume that I was a founding member of the LGBT Mafia, ha ha!

And why would you care where you hit someone at 100 yards with a 7.62mm (.308) projectile? It really doesn't matter where you hit someone with a slug that big mate, with a muzzle velocity of 2700 feet per second, (plus) you're gonna kill 'em, or really fcuk 'em up.

I was talking to a Vietnam vet back in the early '80's, he was reminiscing about his first tour, where his patrol came under fire from a Nog hiding behind a rubber tree in a plantation previously patrolled by US forces. Rubber tree's were good enough protection from wimpy M16's, but Aussies had SLR's and his Platoon Sergeant shot thru the tree, and also thru the Nog sniper, which must have pissed him off.............. ;D

I've got a 4 x 28 BSA scope on my BSA Super Meteor .22 air rifle Mick, but I put it on 40 years ago when I bought it because it looked cool, not because I needed it.............. ;D

That was my point Terry I'm also getting blind as a bat but christ a Rem 700, 308 with a scope you'd think that even a teenager would realize that's not the mark of rifleman, maybe if he sit's in the corner for a few more years reading  Gi joe comics (sorry or video game equivalent) he'll straighten out. As far as me  being lumped in with you guys that's ok but our friends geography is a little off maybe if he'd spent more time listening in grade school rather than playing on the computer. Jeez I really wish the Yanks would build that northern security fence soon rather than just mouthing off about it.

I just had a coupla beers with my brother Nige at the Parap Tavern tonight.
The NBN mob flew him up from freezing (3 deg) Adelaide to sort out the head fcuk that's been brilliantly administered by 2 independant contractors who've got fcuk all communications skills between each other.

Anyway, as we went out to the carpark to leave,  there was this V8 Hilux parked there that was lowered that far that it's arse was closer to the ground than a fcuken low flyin' duck.  ;D

It's difficult to fathom that environment Bill while it is paradise here in Darwin weather wise at the moment.

It was 6.15pm and the sun was shining, the beers were tasting good and brother Nige was saying that if he was back in Adelaide, it'd be dark, the curtains would be drawn closed and the heater turned up while everyone would be drinking warm soup.

Reckon that I'll crack another cold beer while the goings good.  ;D

We've got a work colleague from darwin with us for few days doing training...he can't believe how cold it is. ..he said he's got his hotel room air conditioning cranked up to 26 all night... :o

Back in the 70's when I was still young and hairy, I was shacked up with a sheila living in Bridgewater.

Yeh Mick, I lived at Ashton for a while, woke up one morning to snow. Spent many years in the hills, but when we moved to tassie for a few years, the first 3 mornings we were there it was -4, and it took a while to get used to it!
The thing that pisses me off about adelaide is the extremes...2deg to 45deg, drought to floods...but at least there's variety haha. My perfect place would be 25 every day, no humidity and only rains at night.... ::)
