John, I have helped a buddy who has a well drilling business. We pulled one that was 125 or 150 foot using manual hoisting and a pair of modified vice grips to clamp on between lifts. Talk about a work out, was a 2 man job alternating the lift from well pipe height which was about 3 feet to as high as you could reach or lift...
You felt it afterwards...
At the time Jim had the explosives licenses to be able to set off a small charge in the bottom of the well to get a well that hard water had shutdown and as long as it didn't crack the casing it was usually successful. This was in central Ohio and hard water is extremely common.
Another one was only 75 feet.
Most companies charge big bucks and have a bucket crane with wench setup and they charge a huge fee just to show up and if the pull the pump and almost equal fee of several hundred depending upon depth. Jim didn't gouge like that on his customers...much more reasonable.
The geyser from blowing a well to get it to produce again was a Whump then it was like a oil derrick hit water for several seconds.  It would take a day or two for the wAter to clear up, but it often worked and saved people a huge expense in drilling a new well.

David….. a neighbour showed me his “well vacuum”. He blows compressed air down a hose to a modified well siphon head. There is a larger hose coming back up. Apparently driving the head down into the muck at the bottom and injecting air blows out sand, rocks and mud from the bottom of the well. He’s in a very Sandy area and has to do it every 18 months! I’ll try it in the Spring when the weather is nicer.

Being sick at Christmas sucks, having to cancel plans to visit family for holidays, etc. Getting refrigerator cleaned out for being gone for couple weeks then getting sick just adds insult to injury.

 I declined a medical test after getting good results of a slew of two MRI's a cat scan, a colonoscopy, an endoscope and two different types of ultrasound. I felt like the doctor was enjoying my good insurance a little too much. The nurse was a bit snarky when I told her that I was doing a wait and see since symptoms have cleared up anyway.
 She said she would inform my provider. I feel like I've been the provider. That term kinda pisses me off.

I decided to drag my dusty Harley Sportster out for my last ride in 2024. Rode 29 miles and stopped for fuel, and thought it a good idea to check tyre pressure as I haven’t ridden it in a few months. While pushing the tyre pump thingy onto the valve I discovered 2 broken spokes. WTF?

Rode home very carefully imagining more spokes breaking as I rode along (they didn’t, but my imagination was working overtime) and turned off the freeway onto the road where my storage unit is, and almost hit a Kangaroo! Fcuk! Parked the bike and jumped in my truck and noticed I had a parking fine. Great.

Oh well, that which doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, but 3 things in a row to piss me off was enough, so I went home. Happy New Year!

Ha ha, I’ve received 3 fines for parking on my own footpath Dave. I went to court a couple of months ago and got off, I have another court appearance pending (when the harmonic balancer sh1t itself at 5am and as some arsehole had parked in front of my house I just managed to get it on the footpath with no power steering and no lights) but this time they’ve got me dead to rights so I’ll pay it ($119) which will help my “Not guilty “ plea for the previous occasion. To be honest I was more worried about the broken spokes and almost wearing a Kangaroo in suburbia.

 I helped a friend "Uncle Robin racing" on you tube, set up his new to him Superflow engine dynamometer. It had belonged to a college and had sat for a while. He put a new control panel on it with a big screen for monitoring the vital signs. Anyway, we got the water flowing and were about to start the dyno mule engine when all of the fuel lines began to leak. We realized that the fuel cell needs more shut-off valves, since the fuel return line is below the fuel level, fuel can flow backwards from it. Robin cleaned up the fuel and we called it a day. He didn't want to start the intake and exhaust fans with the gas fumes present.
 And that pissed him off.

Might as well take the Mona Lisa or Michelangelo's David and spray paint 'em Day-Glo colors...If You Can't DO IT, DON'T!!  Just me, guys...old bikes are like CHURCH to me, man...I may not be the best builder on here, but I don't bastardize art.

  There was a post on a racing site about shop floor maintenance, I mentioned that have a spot of Pontiac blue on my floor that's holding up really well from when a can exploded. Otherwise, I polish it with 15W40 Rotella every three thousand miles.
