cb750 rear axle, can anyone post a pic?
« on: July 27, 2012, 02:39:29 PM »
Hi I still need to put my rear axle on right. The problem is the sprocket guard on the wheel doesn't clear the swing arm. I believe I'm missing a washer on the axle on the left hand side (sprocket side) between the swing arm and wheel. Currently there is nothing in there. Can anyone post a picture of their cb750 rear axle on the left side? (sprocket side)

Here's pix of mine currently, the left side definitely needs a spacer between the chain tensioner and wheel?? There is a 'spacer' in there but it goes all the way in if I recall correctly. I'm pulling it off here in a few

Sorry I should have stated my bike is a cb750k4.   You have a k8 right? I think they changed out the setup here because if mine had a spacer like that right there it would never fit in the swing arm! Thanks though man

It looks like you may be missing a spacer that does goes into that sprocket area.If you go to any dealer site and check their micro fiche it is listed as part #8 in their diagrams. Those are always handy to do a quick print out of to compare to the pieces you are assembling when in doubt.

The spacer on the sprocket side is much smaller than the one on the right. Yours appears to be missing the left side spacer altogether. It fits in the left side up aginst the inner race of the carrier bearing and stands proud of the carrier about 1/4 to 3/8 in, enough to fix your problem.

Flyboxes picture of the left side is correct for a K4.

Just a tip, you may want to run the axle the other way. That way your wrench won't run a foul of your muffler. More convenient.

Hey good point!! Actually though I plan on being an obnoxious douche' and running it without the muffler and just the straight 4 into 1 header most of the time, but I have the option of sliding the muffler on if I want to be quiet and stealthy!

Yeah thanks I actually found my other rear axle that I got since I had bought a 2nd set of wheels for this bike. It had that spacer on it!! I'm pretty sure it's good now. There was another spacer on that axle though that one half of it is thicker than the other half I'm not sure where that goes and I don't apparently have it on my current one. hmmm I'll figure out whatever works I guess!!

If it is part #10 called a sleeve, fatter on one end then the other,it goes on the other or inside of the sprocket cover.

Right, and it is an important part of the "spacer stack" making a continuous solid spacer holding the smaller races of the bearings in place. Be sure you have it installed, or despair will come your way.

Yup it's #10 in that diagram.  I only seem to have one of them laying around from the axle I'm not using so hopefully it's in there. I'll double check er' though. Thanks guys! I lost a lot of nuts and bolts on this build I haven't been the most organized fellow.
