Maybe his OEM ignition went bad and that is all he could come up with. In any event, I would get it back to OEM by putting together some bullet connectors or solder and a new switch. Or see what you can find on eBay as far as an OEM switch. Ideally, you maybe can get lucky and find someone parting out a K1 and get the entire male / female connection with switch and key. They are out there...

EDIT: as I look at the pics again, I see an OEM switch under the tank. Are you saying you do not have the key or did he boogy up the wiring???

I have 3 of them. Not sure how the wiring is underneath, but am I able to use the by cutting the wires long enough to soder together then usse the male female caps that I have?

Yes, you can solder and/or use bullet connections. Just no wire nuts, ok?!

I order a new set of rubbers for her. Battlax 45s. Removed the side sprocket cover. I was nervous opening her up. Thinking there may have been a thrown chain and the case is cracked. Well got it off and not one crack! Minus old dirt she look really good. Hopefully more evidence of the miles being accurate. More wishful thinking so far.

Also got her titled in my name.

Good, you know the drill. I use a hand grinder and put the chain in a vise.

Sorry didnt see the edit part. I have a key now. He cut the plastic connection plugs off to attempt to get the bike started. I'm really aiming to make some serious progress the next few days.

Just looked at my EK530 X-ring chain receipt I got from my dealer this year. List was $117 and I paid $94. That other site looks like a rip-off. I imagine you are changing the sprockets too. Remember to add a little blue Lock-tite to the 2 small bolts that hold the front sprocket on. There has been issues with those backing out.

Johnie, can you PM me a contact number to your source? I used locktite on the 550 will do the same on this one. Tonight I plan to pick up some flitz to help remove the rust from the frame and new spark plugs. Carbs have been sent off...

One thing I am debating, do i remove the swing arm and put on one i have that looks brand new. One currently has lots of rust. Tires will be off tonight as well.

Tews--You're bike is coming along nicely. Have you had any luck finding any HM300's? I just recently bought a set off CL in Utah. Nice used ones, little bluing on header pipes;$275. No rust out or dents. I will have to buy baffles though. They are out there, just have to be patience or lucky..  I bought a Candy Gold K1 from Johnie here on SOHC just within the last month.  Steve

Candy Gold K1 750, Update 8/11/12
« Reply #46 on: August 25, 2012, 10:08:16 AM »
Made progress today. Removed the rims, forks, swim arm. Cleaned up the rims  very pleased how they came out  Dropped off the rims at a NEW bike shop and got great service. Minus the fact motorcycle superstore didnt send my tubes????!! WTF is it with my bikes and tires. I contacted motorcycle superstore an they apologized for not sending them. Here she is as of now.

Need some advice now. The fork tubes are good but do have some rust and very minor pitting. On my other K1 I have like brand new tubes from Forking by Franks. Should I swap out or clean up the tubes as best I can an leave this K1 original?

I also took a good look at the rear rim an noticed road rash. The bike had to have been dumped at one time. Upon inspection and I can't believe I missed this.

I am pretty sure the miles may be correct as the engine vin looks to be hand stamped. Might be why the cases look to be new. I'm thinking a chain was thrown originally and an engine was redone due to it. Any insight for this would be helpful as well!

There is so much dirt on this bike. I'm leaning towards taking her down to the frame and getting her powder coated. More insight would be appreciated whether I should or not?

Yes, engine VIN appears to be stamped, probably broken case.

Id use the better tubes.

On the 6th pic above, is that dirt on the rear wheel area and muffler? If that's rust, needs paint or PC.

It's all dirt. I sprayed it with a hose and the top came clean but man the underneath is still full of dirt.

note those chewed up rear sprocket studs/nuts...that bike definately threw a chain....on cleaning, wd40 works great as a light degreaser, I would just clean stuff up as best you can, disassemble stuff if you can't get your fingers in there, I don't see any reason to powdercoat that frame yet, but yeah, you gotta get it clean
If it works good, it looks good...
