Keihin CR starting procedure?
« on: June 23, 2006, 08:27:01 AM »
I ran my CB750 for the first time with the Keihin CR carbs - runs nicely but takes a lot of kicks to get it started.  I had the same issue from hot - I couldn't get it to start easily again.  What is the recommended throttle/choke procedure for the CRs from hot and cold?

Give us a rundown on what you have done to your engine, what size CR's, new or used CR's, and what jetting you are starting with. How does it run with this setup once you get it started?

New 29mm Keihin CRs on standard F1 engine with K&N filters and Kerker 4:1.  I don't know what jets it has in it now, but it runs well when it finally starts!  It is a bit sluggish until about 3500 rpm.  I will find out what jets are currently installed...

have you check timing...if so with a light?  Condition of points/gap?  I dont' have any experience with CR carbs, but either way it should not start hard, regardless of the "procedure".

Thanks for the feedback - from your advice and previous posts, I am thinking it is probably the timing and fouled plugs.  I will give it a try.

Paris, if everything is set right, the trick with every Honda I have owned is don't do any more than take the slack up on the twist grip.

This seems to be the same with the CRs on.

My mate Chris that races the CR750 always finds it a problem and every time he goes to start it, you can see his hand turning the grip.

I can start it first time, every time,...don't give it any gas.  Give it a try.
