how to route inline fuel filter on cb550
« on: August 01, 2012, 03:25:25 PM »
the carb for cylinder 1 and 2 has a ridiculously short tube from the petcock to the little hole where the fuel line feeds through the carb bracket to the carbs......

i imagine the fuel line is gravity fed so how do you route the fuel lines with an inline filter.......

I bought a tiny filter at a local bike shop. I think that routing of the fuel line is not that crucial. Keep it short and avoid high spots that could trap air.
After a while I threw out the filter because I felt that there was not enough space for it and it started to bend. Fearing that it might break I just did not feel save. The petcock filter should be sufficient if the tank is fairly clean...

i got fuel lines from my local motorcycle shop. im sure i already got shiat for them being crappy but i think they will do. ya my petcock filter screen thing is mint and i was just going to put the inline fuel filters in for good measures but my tank is clean so idk. unless there is a certain small fuel filter everyone uses that i dont know about....

This is correct, haven't seen anyway to do that because of those short runs, standard filters with loops cause problems, ask me how I know... then just use your mint petcock filter.

I just don't see a reason for more filters. If two makes you feel better then three would be much better right? About the smallest one you could find would be for a lawn mower or other small engine maybe check your local mower repair shop. I think you are adding more places for possible leaks and air traps. IMHO.
