I just did mine - front and rear. Ken Buchanan told me about the drilling so I went for it - careful as I could be to drill only the retainer and not the hub-side threads, but I did get some of them on a couple holes. The good news is I was able to clean these up pretty well with a thread chaser (basically a 10mm snap-on tap from their thread repair kit) and besides, even if "only" 90% of the receiving threads are in tact, that's plenty of bite for the retainer. At least I hope it will be.
:-)
I guess I'll find out -- I'm gonna put a tell-tale marker on it so I can more easily track any movement, but I'm also gonna stake it (once) and use a bit of locktite.
Getting the rear bearings out was not a fun job, but it's now a done job, and the new ones from All-Balls are in and looking fine.
