New Motad Exhaust

After over a year and 7000km of riding my bike around with an exhaust that was completely rat s#!t, I finally got my new exhaust.  I wanted a marshall deeptone, but the pennies didn't stretch that far, I ended up getting a motad system out of DSS.  I have dealt with them numerous times and have always been pleased with their service, this time was no exception, I ordered it Friday night our time, and it was sitting on my doorstep Thursday morning, I can't even get that kind of service from my local bike shop. 





If you look closely at the exhaust you will see one of the patches on the header pipe, the headers I had were the originals with crappy aftermarket slip on mufflers. 








Here is a picture of it installed, it was a bit of a prick to fit to begin with, but when I threw away the instructions they went on without much fuss.  One thing that stood out is how quiet it is, it wasn't overly loud before, but it isn't a really muffled quiet.  It still has a nice note and still sings above 6k, but it is now civilised.  It even seems to have more pull, it lifted the front wheel just slightly in second while I had the missus on the back.  I highly recommend these exhausts and DSS.

i put one on my 500, and i agree DDS has great shipping. you will enjoy it. quiet at idle but throaty enough at higher rpms. stainless down pipes area plus for the price.  if you need a bumper for the centerstand send me a pm. i have a few spares. ::)

I put a Motad on my K5 in May.  Have been really happy with it.   :)

I did buy mine a long time ago. Mine have discoloured as well, I thought I caused that by running the bike in the garage with no airflow for cooling.

Mine definitely has stainless down pipes.  Collector and Muffler are chrome.  I also think it was well worth the money.

I'm running Motad pipes for two years now. They aren't too loud but sound all right, are reasonably priced and the headers fit quite well. The best thing is: They pass inspection over here without any problems.

What I do not like is:
- Discoloration: My down pipes turned golden too. Within a week.  All the way down to the muffler
- The bracket of the muffler is quite week and does not support the center stand stop very well. I welded in a triangle to keep it from bending

I don't know if the down pipes are stainless steel or chromed. But the chrome on the muffler is fair.

Mine has the stainless down pipes.  They turned golden within about 30 seconds of starting the bike, but I actually like the colour, it goes well with the red of my tank ;D .  72500John thanks for the offer for the bump rubber, I went for a drive to the hardware shop and picked up a small black door stopper that should do the trick for a couple of dollars, if it doesn't I'll let you know.

The headers may be single wall pipes which seems to be common in aftermarket systems. Much more prone to discolor than the stock double wall headers.  Still it's a good looking system.

If it is stainless the gold color can be buffed to shiny stainless with white buffing compound.

Of course the color will come back.

Oh, you could say that, I find myself having to look at the speedo a lot more, it makes a similar sound at 80 as the 4-2 did at 60.  That could cause me some issues if I'm not careful ::) .  I'll post a vid in the next couple of days, I'm still on the fence if I like the sound at idle, but I love the note at 6k plus ;D .

I'd heard they were too quiet so I drilled a hole in my baffle before I even heard it! It's still very quiet.

The popping I'm refering to was everytime I rolled off the throttle, or occasionally when I was rolling through a  parking lot just off idle.  I did hear one pop out the exhaust today, but considering what it was like, I still consider it to have stopped popping.  It is almost as much difference as when I fixed my cam chain.

That is a 113 link cam chain, where there should be a 112 link chain, any guesses why it was rattling and had no power.  Some PO decided to replace the cam chain with the adjuster in the full out position. :o

That Motad looks real nice.  What is your jetting and air filter system?  If you're not popping on decel you must be pretty close to optimum tuning, right?  I am curious how close it is to stock with this system.
