Topic: update on gifted bike

well, got bad news from the bike shop ,they drug the old 754 out to the shed and refused to work on it .said it was two old, so i have to load it up on trailer and take it too the barn they say it would be a good winter project,could this be true? I guess i will have to start from scratch. no start switch how will i get it cranked?

Oh, and yes, it's a good project. Nothing's terribly complicated on these things and any questions you have can be answered on this forum. These guys are great!

Yeah, I was going to say that you just haven't found the right shop yet..eventually you will find the right one, and then you'll live happily ever after..
I of course went right down to the local Honda dealer. All I wanted was new brake pads on the back..the guy gave me a flat "NO!" and dissed me big time...he's not there any more by the way...but then one day, I happened across Kieth @ Extreme Motors...it's more like Kieths old Honda Town, he's got a shop in a little garage in his basement, and all he does is work on old Hondas at home...I go there for the tough stuff, and I fiddle with the rest....someday you'll find the mechanic of your dreams, and when you do, it will be worth the wait. Until then, stick with this bunch of loonies!

The least the shop could've done was provide you with a reference to someone who might work on your bike. Did you ask them if they knew of anyone. Often an ex old employee that had the training and experience. They don't keep a lot of old parts, don't want to tie up a slot that long, don't want to keep up with training, may not get paid for the many hours it requires, it takes away from quick easy paying jobs, and they may say "one thing always leads to another - it's too much trouble". I say what the f@#$ if I'm willing to pay?! Ask around the other shops in your area for someone. When I bought my 750 new the local dealer didn't want to work on my 350. "Too old and too much trouble". When I tried to buy my 750 he then told me it would be 2 weeks before he could get it uncrated and put together. Hell, I was paying cash. I told him I thought you wanted to sell me a new bike since you didn't want to work on my old bike. I rode by on the first 750F in town that afternoon honking the horn and gave him a 1 finger wave. I guess he just didn't get it.

Not sure where in Alabama you are but their is a guy in Duluth, GA (Northside of Atlanta) that works on all the old SOHC4's.  He is really nice and working on and restoring these old bikes is all he does.  I have his card somewhere if you are interested, I will search for it and give you his number.  Hope this helps.

Don't rule out your local, yard/ farm mechanic ,that works on
   ATV's/ boats/lawn equipment etc. he might just be willing to
    help you out for a lot less.{and know where the local supplies are}....
      It doesn't hurt to ask, or post a want add for your locale..

Where are ya?  I'm in Birmingham, if you're close by, I can offer beer if nothing else.  It certainly turned out to be one of the major expenses of my restoration project
