HONDA CB 750 Four - Original
« on: July 14, 2012, 04:05:50 PM »
G’day and hello there –

this is my very first entry to this forum, so not sure whether this is too long or too much detail or not enough detail – have to learn the ropes – I guess. Sorry if it is either.

I placed this (almost exact ) same text on other forens to gather information, sorry if you read this somewhere else already.

One of the reasons for me joining this forum is to find out more answers to my passion for Honda CB 750 Fours and restoring and rebuilding bikes in general.

My predicament:

I do have a couple of Honda CB750’s and would like to restore them to their original condition. No big deal, right, well, one day – started on one of them – a CB 750 1976 – model K6. (to determine that alone took a bit)
I am on a quest now for a long time to determine the original make-up/configuration of this K6 and a K2 (my second bike – which I enjoy riding, weather permitting).
Now then, I searched many foren and clubs and other networks – like the national motorcycle museum, Honda itself, the internet and so on.
But, to my surprise there is not much literature, picture or textual evidence of what that exactly was – or better how did these machines look like, from factory – imported to Australia.
I saw many pictures and configurations, but they are contradicting each other, or do not give enough detail about it.
Are there any pictures showing the originals in their totality – i.e. I am getting conflicting advice – for example, one source is stating: “... they of course had NO chromed parts, especially NOT the Rocker cover, ...” and the next source claims “ ... the rocker cover ( and of course all other parts) were certainly chromed as per factory... “
Now then –all this inspired me to find out “for sure” – I am trying to find (picture and in words) evidence of the original condition as those models sold in Australia. May be I find even more model descriptions.
What my question would be whether there is anyone in possession of, or knows of, such a source and whether these artifacts, like books, pictures, sales brochures any advertisement material are available.
I can share this as an example of a source of contradiction – the national motorcycle museum advised to do this and I quote:
”... Google images
In google, type this exactly as I have done- "CB750 K2"original condition
hit enter
On the picture double click
Double click on (web this page)
Knock yourself out
...”

When you get there, you see many, many pictures, but contradicting and not detailed enough, for me that is, unless I am overlooking something there? – well, one can see some models there which have only one mirror – I admit they do look fabulous and do look very original and clean and polished as such – but there is no details in regard to age of the machine – or whether it is meant to be original.

Thank you very much for your patience and all your assistance in advance

cheers

Welcome mate, you won't find a better place anywhere on the net about the Honda 4's. Post any questions in the SOHC/4 bikes section and all should be sorted for you.....

7fifty4, Welcome and here is a parts list for your k6:

http://www.cmsnl.com/honda-cb750k6-four-australia_model14387/

Can you put some pictures of your bikes up?
Are you aiming for:
  runner?
  rider?
  looker?
  trophy winner?
  concours trophy winner?

FWIW - the US bikes arrived with two mirrors in the shipping crate, maybe only the left mirror got fitted at the out of crate assembly.

Thank you all for your efforts, appreciated.

I guess the main thing is that I am going to love what I ride. period. no matter how original - or not.

I am now trying to work out out to create a gallery, to show some pics - doesn't look that easy at first glance though. There isn't a 'create' or similar button on the gallery page - do I have to ask the moderator? - I'll find out.

cheers

Thank you all for the warm welcome, appreciated.

Had two recommendations for photobucket and one for tumbler. After investigating both, the sohc forum admin group enabled my gallery account.

So I am going to head there in the near future and add some pics and see how they come along.
I noticed that anyone can actually see them, which is ok, I guess.

And, I do live near Gawler.

I have now added some pictures to myGallery - cheers

I was asked what I am actually aiming for:

Thinking about a few things here - I definitely, currently, use the K2 as my runner, rider, good looking, traveller, go-to-work, weekend ride, until,
the K6 will be finished, this is going to be a stunner, no doubt and only leave the shed on sunny days ! ( then I am dreaming of taking the K2 apart )
And yes, there are some and will be some non-original parts on both, sure, but that's all I can do/ afford atm.

trophy winners?  well, probably not, I don't think the purse will go that far, but i am trying.
concours trophy winner? well, depends on the above mentioned purse, may be one of them, one day - the more I find out about the original condition and parts , the more I realise I can not afford all these parts.... <**sigh**> what a shame.

You could do worse than contact the Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club rep in SA. His name is Peter Hunt and is very familiar with CB750s. Also, the VJMC (Australia) is holding its annual rally Mar 2013 at Victor Harbour SA. If you want to get up close and personal with some nice CB750s (and others) then get along there. If you want to contact Peter re the rally or 750s email him  phunty@bigpond.net.au
