Insurance
« on: August 03, 2012, 07:35:06 AM »
Just got my insurance premium information from my agent.  They do have my house and two cars and three motorcycles.  The company is Allstate.

I asked for the state minimum on liability on the CB 500 and it was added to my policy at $75 a year.  Normally that would sound pretty good except I have full coverage on my other two bike and the liability part for those bike which are 10 yrs old and 2 yrs old is $25 and $32.  Called to inquire and found out that the minimum for a motorcycle policy for Allstate is $75 a year.  I asked the agent how much full coverage on the CB 500 would be.  This includes comprehensive and collision.  Total cost for full coverage $75.  I would rather pay less but since that wasn't happening I now have full insurance coverage on my 1972 CB 500 for the same cost as liability.

Get a quote from American Collectors, do  google search and they pop up.  I think that I pay $100 a year for full coverage.  If the bike is ever totaled, they pay me an agreed value of $5,000.  Check em out, they only insure old cars and bikes and their prices are reasonable.

There are a few places that will do agreed value on collector vehicles. Haggerty and Grundy are the two that come to mind.

Yeah, I've got state farm and it's similar (I think the least they'll write a state minimum policy for is like $95/yr. for my '75 550).  Geico will write one cheaper with all of the same stuff here in Ohio and I've heard good things about them, you may want to check them out.

I went through this also. Check Progressive. I believe they offer "stated value" - which is good for a vintage bike that has been restored or improved. That's who I have for my bikes right now.

I have bike insurance threw State Farm, and had a replacement value full coverage policy with them on a 78 KZ1000. When I first insured the bike I asked what they showed for replacement value and they stated about 800$. I then asked if I could tell them what I thought it would take to replace my bike and they said sure but they would research it , so I told them 3000$. Well after a week of their research  they called and said they could cover for 3000$ because they couldn't even find a KZ 1000(bored to 1075) 29mm smoothbores. They couldn't beleive 500$ for a set of carbs when I showed them.

I didn't realize you could actually get them to agree to a replacement value before hand.  I will need to look into this.

I didn't have a problem here in NC with State Farm. I traded the KZ to a Marine and gave him 1250$ for a 2000 Roadstar with less than 25k on the clock. SF agreed to 5000$ coverage on the Star.
