That could be, I suppose.  I took it all apart several years ago.  I don't recall if I checked for bent.  If I remember correctly, I thought the threads were actually cut off center axis of the screw.  Either that or the pivot bearing is machined off center.  The binding becomes progressively worse at one end of travel.

I thought machining might be fun.  This Smithy machine is a real killjoy.  But, perhaps this is one thing I cannot teach myself to do, for some odd reason.

The neck bearings were shot due to a PO putting 90 lbs of preload on them.  The front wheel bearings were shot due to being hammered into position, possibly with a screwdriver as a ram.   So, I took the whole front end off the bike, and the unicycle now sits in the garage on the main stand and a jack stand keeping it as a big ornery obstruction in the garage.  Then the while-I've-got-it-apart disease took over.........

Yeah, if the mixture screws and synch are considerably off, they will clang and bang at idle. One thing you might want to try is spraying some carb cleaner at the throttle shaft ends while it's idling. These carbs develop issues with the felt seals and the blanking plugs than can make it necessary to open the mixture screws way beyond specs for a smooth idle. If the felt seals are shot, you can replace them with -011 sized O rings - Viton suggested. Just place one in each shaft seal groove and press the metal seal holder back in place over it.

Dang.
Languishing in my garage with the front end removed and dismantled on the work bench waiting for paint... and time.
 Had to use the summer for house and yard projects.  Among them, 60 feet of fencing, garden maintenance, house painting, as well as setting up a paint booth.  I just can't work 12 hour days as I once did.  >:(

Toying with the idea of putting the Velorex 700 side car on it.  (It's black, too!)  I figure I should get it road worthy first, though.

Ask him for a set of Vetter sidecar mounts.  They bolt on to a GL1100 without any welding.  He can also set you up with the rest of the mounting hardware as well as a modified triple to make direct steering easier on ya.

Sidecars are a different kind of handling beast. It is cool for their utility though.

The summer is a limited opportunity and you have been a busy boy with lots of hard work. Being only 51 I am feeling it already and can identify. The Wing is a longer term project and you have other Hondas to enjoy. So, no harm with it waiting other than taking up more space as a result of being a project.

I look forward to future updates when you have time for it again.

I have a paint booth now.  Need to put in some lighting.  Then I can finish painting the parts needed for assembly and get GW mobile again.  I'm gonna try my hand a pin striping, I think.

Yes, still doing house stuff too, to get it ready to sell.  Soon we will be traveling in Arizona scouting for a house buy.   Sure would be nice to have GW done by then.  Probably 50/50.
