Fork seals and simple suspension upgrade.
« on: August 04, 2012, 04:42:02 PM »
I've put serious money into past bikes' suspensions.

But for this bike, I'm trying to keep a budget.

My fork seals look new, but are leaking fluid, so I'll be buying new fork seals.

Now here's the question:

What should I do to the forks while I have them disassembled? The same goes for my ancient, rusted shocks.

I don't want race tech components or anything else that'll cost me hundreds of dollars. Are there economical upgrades. Simple spring upgrades and preferred fork oils?  I weigh 185, with gear.

What about shocks? I'm not going to put more than $100 in shocks. Does anyone have a recommendation?

Every time I go into the garage I find something more I need to do to this bike.

Thanks.

For about $100 you can get a set of progressive springs for the forks. Personally I'd recommend 10w fork oil for your weight, but I'd consider that to be a bit sporty for hard twisty riding. 7w or even 5w would be better for just commuting or cruising.

For $200 you can get a set of basic Hagon shocks. Comes recommended from a lot of people here.
