K1 starter didn't work until jump
« on: August 22, 2012, 03:33:19 PM »
Electrical is all functioning now for my gold K1. Originally I was able to get everything to work minus the electric start button.  This morning with the advise from a member I jumped the solenoid with a long screw driver. I did this due to needing to know if the bike has power. About 15 minutes ago I wanted to show my buddy the bike has spark and I am able to jump it. Turned on the ignition and hit the start button. Upon hitting it turned over. I turned off the bike and turned it back on. Now the electric start works.

Should I be worried that I may have damaged anything? Should I continue the process to get her running?

I am worried the starter button is working now but may leave me stranded one day. This being a good thing in a way due to the bike running.bad cause I would be stranded. Any explanation to the electric start button working now would be greatly appreciated.

Disassemble your start solenoid and clean it up inside. Sounds like it might be crusty, making the plunger stick.

One other quick pointer Nick. Always make sure the 71 is in neutral or the clutch is in when you hit the start button. If in gear she will roll or go when button is hit, don't ask me how I know  ::) No safety goodies in there.

Man I have not been getting the email post updates.. Thanks for the inputs.

No worries Eric, I has a KZ last summer that had a safety on there that would not allow it to kick over without the clutch engaged.

Now waiting for the carbs to be done; hopefully I will be able to take a quick spin.. I am debating if I want to take her down to the frame this winter and have to powder coated.

God this thing is horrible. Maybe my fingers are to fat.  I have the 4. Not 4s. I was one of those in line at 3am waiting for the 4 to come out.
