FJR down, ribs bruised

It was a fun ride while it lasted. I was going on to myself about how good the bike was running, how great a day it was, I'd hooked up with 5 others (of the 50 at the MSTA River City Ride in Corydon IN) to ride with and they had us going down some really back country roads, along the Ohio River, great fun.

A little less braking and a little more countersteer would've kept me from sliding the bike into a guardrail (the bike, not me). But i did get a few bruises (no scrapes thanks to good gear) or broken bones. Brand new helmet touched down though.  Good for an amblance ride to Perry County Memorial.

EMTs said they pick up a lot of bikers on that road. Not often they get one that isn't bleeding, can still talk to them and has a nametag on. (From the MSTA) 

No pictures, camera's still in the tank bag at Colonel T----shners garage where he's keeping my bike till I can go pick it up.

Trying not to sneeze, bruised ribs you know.    :D

Ohio river you say... Near what city? I live near the southern tip of ohio in a town that borders the river.

Wow, that was good luck mixed with being smart enough to wear proper gear. Glad it worked out as it did.

Wow Ron, you really should have been open with the group about the mods you've been considering on the FJR, you didn't have to take a ride w/the EMTs and get all bruised up. We would understand this obsession/addiction. We have a place for maybe another 100 page thread for another other bike if you have that kind of time and money...
Uh maybe that plan was to open the checkbook for the FJR build. Pretty flashy way to do it...sneeky too!

Just kidding, I'm really glad you are OK!

The MSTA River City Ride (I used to be the ride leader) started in Madison IN 20 years ago, morphed to Vevay, Carrollton KY, and most recently Corydon, which isn't on the river, but close enough for a motel to be headquarters. The routes, which are all fairly free form, go to places like Maukport (pop 81)  is actually on the river, along with a nicely paved but 1 lane "river road" leading to New Amsterdam. Leavenworth ((Outlook) and I crashed near a little town called Magnet, at the end of another narrow road. Nearest Hospital was in Tell City.

If i get the FJR running in time, I'll be in Marietta OH with the club next month, on the River. Or maybe Phaedrus?

Hey Ron, sorry to hear about the FJR and yourself, glad you'll be okay!

 I locked up my back tire this morning heading in to work when a cager pulled a pass on a truck into my lane with a quick signal and a quicker lane change. Back tire started to screech and that pucker feeling started to swell as the bike started to lowside. Got up off the seat and got the rear to unlock and recovered. Took a while to recover from that near laydown.  :P

Glad to hear you are ok MC.

I know where you are coming from. The K1 slid out from under me one night because of loose gravel on a paved corner.  Next thing I knew my bike and I were performing synchronized somersaults into the ditch and beyond.  I walked away from that one.

Well...we were going faster than we were supposed too, but we (I) always do. There were 4 ahead of me, A duc, a FZ1, a Multistrada (Duc) and a Vstrom650, all sailed thru.

No I'd say it was the first 240 miles I'd put on anything this year, and i was just not up to it. Countersteering to obtain proper lean angle is far more important than braking in such a situation, and i was on the brakes too long. It wasn't too fast or too tight, just too slippery.

Little beats miles in the saddle, and some refresher on technique. I'm rereading my "Twist of the Wrist" now, as i just don't put the miles on like I used to.

Friday was 140 to get there. Saturday AM when i fell was 90+ miles on some really twisty roads without a break. Could have been some fatigue setting in, which was masked by enthusiasm.  There again, fatigue is best recognized with experience.

Wow MC, I'm happy to hear you are in good spirits and well enough to talk about your.... adventure. I think its a good thing you had the new helmet on. They always fit tighter. Too many folks here doing without helmets here these days, with the new law and extra hot temperatures.
 I finally got to ride an FJR this year at the Yamaha demos.... very nice, I like the deep rumble of the bigger four. I didn't get much of a chance to turn it loose, just as well I suppose.

There are others faster now, but 140+mph with bags, shaft, and a fairing is hard to beat.   ;D

Just saw this also, could of been much worse. Thank God for good riding gear :D It can be replaced you can't ;) Take it easy and heal up.
