550 Forks--Bike to low
« on: June 25, 2006, 02:55:47 PM »
Hello All,
Had the chop on back burner for awhile. Just started working on it again.

It's a hardtailed 76 550.

I had changed stock tubes for 750 tubes abt 2 inches longer--but still not enough rise.

Bike sets to low in front, drags kick stand on turns, had to put stock rim back on(had 16 in Sporty rim on honda hub on it, but pipes drug). I am looking for some longer forks to raise front end. Then I will extend frame front down tubes to level engine.
I want to stay with my lowers and spoked front end that was stock on the 76. I do not care much for Comstar look. Plus it does not fit look I am going for.
Any ideas or leads on longer forks--
Thanks,
Lee

Thought some pics would help.
Pic one  of bike (early in mock up gaiters removed) with stock rim and tubes
2nd pic with comstars. Later used these tubes but stock lowere and spoked rim in first picture. I changed pipes also as the were from a 750 and just didn't fit correctly.
But Bike still too low.
Any help Appreciated,
Lee

Maybe you should email DJ_AX...he has a thread going on this page about his long forks...perhaps you two could swap...  :D
