One of the worst PO fixes I have seen

It was a good looking basket case, but once all was said and done there were very few parts that I didn't have to touch.  About the only thing I didn't have any trouble with was the carbs, I just checked the float height and emulsion tubes and synced them.

I guess your definition of "basket case" is different from mine, I mean I know it's subjective.  Basket case to me would be something that looks far worse than your before picture.

My current restoration, although still being constructed, had plenty of issues. Doesn't really qualify as a "basket case" since my definition implies that parts of it were already residing in bushel baskets (although much of it now DOES live in buckets and boxes awaiting rehab and reassembly) but should be a very respectable machine when I get through with it...

The build thread can be found here:

and if I remember to I will update this thread when the build is complete.

That's what I'm talking about when I say "basket case"!
For me that would be a parts bike I just wouldn't bother with.

Not a Honda, but my basket cases usualy come in a basket:

It is a proven fact that modifying a SOHC Honda in any way will bring on the apocalypse.

Initial looks aren't everything.  It had shiny guards, and it sort of ran, the wheels were ok, but the bearings were shot, the fork staunchions were bent, the tank had holes in it, the exhaust was rusted and cracked, the tyres that were on it hadn't even been in production for over 20 years, it had a 113 link cam chain in it, the front brake calipers were corroded and unusable, the drive chain was stretched a ridiculous amount and the sprockets were extremely badly worn, the rear shocks were rusted up, the gauges were barely working, basically for what it cost me to build this bike in parts alone I could have bought a near new bike.  If I had known this beforehand I probably would have done just that, but I'm glad I did rebuild this one because I now have a bike that a lot of people here have never even heard of, let alone seen, the 650's are quite rare in Australia.

Started with a frame a friend gave me, a $100 engine and a garage full of stuff from a guy for $200. Much treasure hunting and dollars later a K1 emerged. Cliff.

Yes, good point, you're right. Pictures alone do not tell the whole story.
My XL250s didn't look as bad as it was. It was all there but it was totally worn out.
Parts were hard to find and expensive. Before I was done the only thing I didn't have to do was rebuild the transmission.

I see many are posting non SOHC4's so here's my latest project and a build thread. It's a 1964 Honda 150 Benly given to me by a woman whose father was the original owner. It came with a 1967 Alberta licence plate. Rescued for me by 754 as she called me the night before leaving for Australia to come and get it which was a 2 hour ferry ride and 5 hour drive away. Cliff.

My 81 GL1100 Goldwing had been sitting apart for 9 years before I acquired her.
Fortunately the PO had kept most of the parts together for those 9 years.
There is no other experince quite like sitting on your restored bike reeving the throttle ready to take that first ride.

My one and only. Bent frame, bent forks, wrecked clocks, cx500 seat, duff shocks, cam tensioner, gaskets, bent pipes. Rear wheel had loads of spokes missing or dodgy. Wrong frame/sidepanels.
