Before

It was a good looking basket case, but once all was said and done there were very few parts that I didn't have to touch. About the only thing I didn't have any trouble with was the carbs, I just checked the float height and emulsion tubes and synced them.
I guess your definition of "basket case" is different from mine, I mean I know it's subjective. Basket case to me would be something that looks far worse than your before picture.
Initial looks aren't everything. It had shiny guards, and it sort of ran, the wheels were ok, but the bearings were shot, the fork staunchions were bent, the tank had holes in it, the exhaust was rusted and cracked, the tyres that were on it hadn't even been in production for over 20 years, it had a 113 link cam chain in it, the front brake calipers were corroded and unusable, the drive chain was stretched a ridiculous amount and the sprockets were extremely badly worn, the rear shocks were rusted up, the gauges were barely working, basically for what it cost me to build this bike in parts alone I could have bought a near new bike. If I had known this beforehand I probably would have done just that, but I'm glad I did rebuild this one because I now have a bike that a lot of people here have never even heard of, let alone seen, the 650's are quite rare in Australia.
