Finally got my bike back.  Not 100% happy because he moved my seat back by about 3/8 of an inch and now there is a gap of about 1/2 between the tank and the seat. Here are some pics of the progress.   Tanks and seat finally go to paint tomorrow.

Battery box and where the starter solenoid will go

Seat mounts

New grips and mirrors

Front fender (going to be painted)

New Rotor

It would also go really well with my 1988 VFR750 in Honda black with gold trim livery.

Well I finally got her going, took her out for couple hours today and took some pics:

On the way home when I just got back into town the bike just died.  No power at all.  First thought is I blew the fuse on the custom wiring harness or the Lithium/Ion battery was dead.  It was a 100 degrees and I'm in my full leathers tearing through the electrical when I find that the bolt for the ground wires had fallen out.  So in my full leathers I walk to the Home Depot about a mile away and get a bolt and walk back.  My boots are brand new Gasolina's and not broken in yet so between the 5lbs of sweat I lost I gained a bunch of blisters.  Still had a great time ridin' though!!!

Awesome build, man. This is the kind of bike that inspires me to get on craigslist most days and look around for a bike to rebuild. Excellent work.

Yep - great looking bike.

Looks like you used a the same Rockcity seat pan I am using on my CB450, did you consider shortening the pan at all or are you happy with the way it looks and feels to ride with the full length seat pan?

And could you take a close up photo of the rear tail light mounted in the pan and post it here for me?

Thanks.

Thanks. I used the full length.  The way I'm built the full length seemed to fit best.  Here is a shot of the the tail light.  To be honest if I had it to do over I'd have mounted a light under the seat.

Mike,

Love your 350! That seat works perfectly too, I'll have to read back through your thread and find out where you got it from because it's very similar to the one I ended up making for my 400, albeit to match the 350F tank I'm using (so we did it in reverse!).

As for your taillight, I too had the same dilemma. In the end I did the same as you, except I used a round Lucas taillight from an MG. Same shape and approximate size as to what you're using but flatter and more convex. Take a look at some photos here:

http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=51957.msg1054683#msg1054683

The issue I have no is mounting the number plate. In Australia you can't do the vertical mount like you have so I've tried numerous ways of mounting it as a quasi mud-guard but all have ended up with it being bent off by the tyre.

Anyway, good work mate.

Rick.

Rick the bike looks great! I love the tank nice work.  I like your tail light better, the chrome ring gives it a nicely finished look.  I had my plate mounted under the seat originally but in order for it to clear the rear wheel I had to mount it further back than what you've done.  I moved it because we have to have an inspection sticker under the plate and between the two of them it hung down way to far.  So I moved it.

Hey Mike- thanks for the close up photo, that helps me with my tail light decision.

Hey RickB - whereabouts in Melbourne are you? Come round to Thornbury for a coffee some time on your cafe racer and see how I am going on mine.

Mad Uncle, I'm down on the Mornington Peninsula but spend a lot of time at mates places in Richmond when I'm back from the US (I live in LA presently). I'll be back in the summer.
