Mt. Evans, CO Ride
« on: June 25, 2006, 06:31:26 PM »
OK guys, when are we doing Mt Evans? Who wants to join in? For all you non Colorado guys, Mt Evans is one of 2 paved peaks in Colorado that you can ride to the top that are 14,000 + in elevation. Pretty damn good view from up there. Just west of Denver and close to I-70. If anyone wants to come from afar I'm sure we could provide accomodations. It's summertime in the Rockies!! The streams are flowing fast, the wild flowers are blooming, the skies are the most beautiful blue you will see, the air and water are pure, and there are at least a million bikers on the road here. Everyone else is enjoying this. Why not you?! I know we have a bunch of Denver-ish type guys and a fairly new Cheyenne guy. Lets put together another ride. After this one, perhaps Pikes Peak &/or a tour through the state for a few days. Ante up suckers - let's ride!!!

Once you make it up, it's all down hill the rest of the way. You probably won't be past 3rd gear anyway. Whats your current jetting? We can take an average and make adjustments but everyone else is running stock or close to it. I'll have the Carb Stix ready along with a few jets. I'm going to be up in the Canadian Rockies first of August. Meet us here then ride back north. How's that for an offer?

Paul,

I'm headed out for the weekend too. See if the other guys up your way are interested for the folllowing weekend. My only obligation on Saturdays is my daughter's morning baseball game. I'm always available during the week except for Tuesdays baseball practice. How's the F coming along? I have the electricals doing better and a helicoil helped with my oil leak (head gasket doesn't count).

Terry,
Sounds good. They are paving Pikes Peak in stages over the next few (10?) years. They paved another mile or two but the top section is still gravel. Independence Pass needs to be ridden also. That will be a great ride. Looking forward to getting together for a ride.

Do they still do that hill climb race at Pike's Peak?  Isn't that usually in July?  I'd love to watch those guys getting sideways with a 10,000 foot drop off a few feet away.  That'd be a hell of a thing to see in person and a good twisty ride over there.  Just throwin' that out there for you dirty SOB's.  Discuss.  ;)

Let's see if we can make Mt Evans happen next weekend. Let's see what everyone can do.
Pikes Peak Hill Climb is this Saturday.

A later date would be best for me since it turns out I have to work this weekend.  I should have the 22nd off since I usually take Friday and Saturday off for the Rusted Nuts meet in case we decide to go for a ride.

Allright guys!  Does the 22nd work for everybody else?

Hopefully the weather will be a little more cooperative than on the Trail Ridge ride.  We can take some pictures to make the more "Mountain challenged" members of the forum jealous!

I'll offer up my place as a meeting point, or we can all just meet somewhere in Morrison.  Whatever works best.

Heffay, Paul, you guys free that day?  And what about Hondaman and Terry?  Never ridden with you guys, but I know you're in the area.

Hey Gordon,

Where is your place?  My daughter has a 8am ball game and I could get out of town by 10am. Probably take me an hour to meet up if you're in S Denver. I should be able to make the 22nd happen.

We need to see if Hondaman will have his bike ready to go then. It would be great to meet the rest of the guys.

My bike died on me 5 times in about an hour today. This is my 75 Wing. Well I made it home and found my points to be the problem. Not opening to spec. Started it up after I adjusted them and what a show I was having. Sparks everywhere, After I adjusted them the Idle was up to about 2000 rpm. I set it back to about 1000/1100. It didnt die so i figure that was my problem. I hooked up another condenser and same thing was happening. Not dieing but sparking all over the place. I scored a dyna III about a month ago at the junk yard and probbably going to put it in this weekend.
I'll still be up for the ride. :)

not to bad I have a float sticking on the #4 carb. The PO have the #1 and #4 carb bowls on the wrong sides so the drain screw is pointing towards the engine and not outward like it should be. Just a little harder to drain. I got the front brake's all put together and just really need to go over the wirring.

I've started a new thread in the "Regions" forum so we can hash out all the details of the ride.
