Goofaroo your stuff looks great!! Please keep us posted on the final results. I can't wait to see the final results!

Thanks.  It's been one of those projects that I'm just doing as I have some free time. I'm hoping to slap the engine back together in the next few weeks and stick it back in the frame and get back to a rolling chassis.

I think Stev-o is right. It would probably cost much more to chrome them than to powdercoat them. As far as prep,  they will just blast them to prepare the surface.  They are almost always doing some black parts so it's usually pretty cheap to have them do just a few pieces along with their other black parts.  While you are at it have the mounting brackets done as well.

There are a few places here in Fort Wayne that I am calling tommorow. I will  go with the black on the frames and mounts and have the bags painted red. I'm thinking that will look pretty cool, maybe even paint the tops of the bags black, I think someone mentioned a ways back about watching my leg as I swung it over the bag.

The bags might look really good in white once you get the frames powdered in black.

Stev-O I will check, I highly doubt it will look right. I'm not a fan of white, and I can emagine the digs at work, Candy Cane bike for example. But hey if its right I will have them painted.

I like the look of hard bags on a bike.  It makes it look like it's going somewhere and if you actually are you're going to need someplace dry to put things.  I like them so much i put them on my previously naked goldwing AND on my 550.

Just when you think you may have seen all the AWESOME bike on SOHCS,here comes 2 more. Both those bikes are sweet and I like the looks of both of them with the luggage,HONDA luggage to boot! Very nice! I have never seen those before.

Thanks man!  Your Shoei's are looking great and if you do any touring on the bike you will love their utility.  I ride two up on my bikes much of the time and can't put enough gear on them.  We took the GL1000 on a 3700 mile trip last summer.  I used to have Krauser hard bags on the 550 but ultimately opted for the Hondaline because now i can swap the bags back and forth from bike to bike.

As much as i hate to admit it i have even been toying with the idea of a trailer for the GL mostly because i found a vintage model that i really like the look of.  Looking forward to seeing pictures of your bags mounted up.

Here is the GL loaded up:

And my favorite picture:

Here is the trailer that has caught my attention:

Very nice fairing on the GL welnamark, suits it extremely well but not the standard Vetter I believe, can you tell us what brand please?

Thanks.  The fairing is a Vesco Rabid Transit.  There aren't a lot of them around at least not compared to Vetters and i have not seen one on a GL.  I usually see them on airheads.

Ah, yes that's where I have seen the shape, thanks.  Was it difficult to mount?

Not hard at all.  Well not exactly.  I remember it as not being hard.  The fairing actually uses a Vetter mount so that part was easy.  The difficulty is that the fairing required flatter bars and the 76 GL bars are internally wired so mounting up new bars required some doing.

The fairing is a nice size, is fun to look at, and provides plenty of protection. I see over it from my seating position but the air coming off the top is nice and clean, no buffeting.  The only thing I don't like about the set up is that even with the lower bars the steering movement is reduced making it more difficult to do u turns and i have smashed my fingers a couple of times between the bar grip and a sharp edge of the fairing while maxing it out.

Welnamark, where do I begin, that GL is awesome,I love the fairing and I can see why your favorite pic is your favorite pic.WoW!  I too have been toying with the idea of a trailer, the trailer you are interested there is really a work of art! That is so cool looking! I had a oportunity at 1 similar last year in VanWert Oh.,it was in the local Honda dealership(now closed) on consignment. I wish I woulda bought it. Who knew this is where I would be a year later?

Thanks again.  It was hard for me to make the decision to put on a fairing.  I prefer a naked bike for around town and short trips but doing a 300 - 400 mile day on a unfaired bike at 70 mph plus really takes it's toll especially if there is any kind of weather.

I am generally a solitary and modest person but i love motorcycles and talking about them.  When you're touring on one of these old bikes you can't stop without talking with someone, they are generally a local, and they usually provide you with a more pleasant and scenic route to take to where you're headed or to a hidden restaurant or campsite you would have otherwised missed.  All because they want to guess what year your old Honda is or tell you about the one they used to have.

Not to mention the satisfaction of getting a 35 plus year old bike ready for a 3 week trip and making it home without major incident.

Your comments on the GL will help motivate me to keep at removing all the head gasket material when i get home this evening. (I'm in the middle of giving her a new head gasket as the original had finally begun to fail)

I was thinking about making a trailer for my bike...to pull my Honda S90. Would be one hell of an entrance to the bike shows. Certainly not a trailer queen.

Monday I sanded away a ton of rust and old paint, then primed, and now I have added my second coat of paint. I will spray on a clear coat tonite. I'm thinking more & more I'm gonna put the hitch on. I bought new bolts and nuts from HomeDepot last nite,I couldn't find the right size,so of course I bought a bigger size hoping it would work,it didn't they are to big,so I will return them and search elsewhere. The bolts I needed are 9/16 and I bought the larger 7/16. I also added some short shocks to my 750,I hope that doesn't affect anything. No paint shop here, just coat hangers, my motorcycle ramp and my garage.
