76 cb550k2 ballbearing home
« on: August 20, 2012, 06:17:26 PM »
Hi - I have a siezed 76 cb550k2, posted my intro last night on the forum.  I drained the oil today and removed the right side case cover.  I removed the clutch pak and a small ball bearing fell out.  I've been searching the forum and have found references to this but not quite sure where it came from.  I believe it goes in the hole of the clutch spring mount (?) then the rod goes in after it?

I've attached the pic of what i'm referring to.

Also, see the washer on the right, that fell out too.  Can't find where this goes, wondering if it was on the kick start lever?  I've been looking at the schematics and manuals found on this site.

Excited as the motor doesn't seem to be siezed after I removed the clutch pak and reassembled the discs and plates.  Any help is appreciated...

i have a 75 550 and when i went through my clutch, i don't ever recall seeing that single piece ball bearing.  the small rod with the ball end goes in to the hole to push the plate.

have a read of my thread here http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=105085.0

if your clutch checks out, nothing stuck there, your engine is probably stuck.  i just went through that few months ago.

and here's the link to my build thread

hope this helps, and that your engine is not as bad as mine.

have fun and enjoy your journey

Thanks for the reply, I've read your thread and am following the steps.  I'm hopefull I can get mine going too...

I'm referring to the bearing in these posts.  If these don't apply to my k2 bike then cool.  Previous to opening the case the kick start would not go all the way down.  Now the kick goes all the way down so I'm hoping it was the clutch pak that was frozen.  Bike sat for 7 years prior to running.

+1 on small single ball bearing not being in the case. did you take the kicker off? theres a ball that rides inside of there acts as a stopper. Or did you take your triple trees off lots of balls that look like that inside. Quick google search will show where the lifter rod goes

I did take the kicker off so sounds like that it.  I did do some searching on that as I thought the washer was from there too but didn't see a ballbearing reference.  I'll look again.  Thanks everyone for the help...

Ah!  Found it's home inside the kicker housing that connects to the shaft on the bike.  I see the kicker lever has a cooresponding indentation for the bearing, I'll need to figure out how it goes when I reinstall.  Need to order the gasket first so now just degreasing until parts arrive.
