CB500 Jets
« on: August 12, 2012, 11:12:29 PM »
I have two scenarios I may be working with. In both cases I have a 4-1 exhaust of unknown origin. It is definitely not a MAC. Nobody has ever been able to identify it. It doesn't look like anything else that is currently available.

Scenario 1) is the stock plenum using a K&N filter that replaces the stock airbox.

Scenario 2) is a breadbox with velocity stacks that I got from Steel Dragon.

Also I am in Denver at 5280ft if that matters.

What jets should I use for either scenario? I am pulling the carbs to do float bowl gaskets so I may as well get the jetting right.

With the 4 into 1 exhaust,  non stock intake system, and 5,000ft+ altitude you will need to rejet.

If the motorcycle was sold in Colorado Honda may have shipped it with larger jets.
You need to decide which intake system will be used.

You need to find out what the jet sizes are now. Main jet and idle jet.
Also the needle position.

Yes.

Everything is OEM specs for normal altitude. I know because I did it myself.

I wanted to try 110s but I can't seem to find them right now. I can only find 105 or 115s. Would either of these worth trying in either of my scenarios?

If I do 115s should I up the pilot jet? If so, to what? Stock is 40, what is +1?

Here's some pics of my exhaust. It has a baffle in the muffler. I realize pics don't say how it flows or performs but I know almost nothing about this thing. Maybe someone recognizes it.

If it's worth doing, it's worth doing twice.

Ok, I guess I am going to use the Steel Dragon breadbox. While it may not be ideal, I just can't swing a TinTop setup, nor do I wish to wait for it. I need the K&N setup for my CB550.

So... 4-1 header and Steel Dragon Breadbox. I think I'm going to do the 110s if I can ever find them.

Ok, here's the filter setup I am actually going with. K&N on OEM carb box like in the pic.

I am not sure that intake setup with that exhaust will warrant 110s so I also picked up 105s as well. I would love some guidance on which would be the right choice to start out with. Hoping maybe TwoTired can lend some advice here.

I'll have the Steel Dragon intake up for sale shortly if anyone is interested. Probably for around $100.

Thanks!
