I have been missing the chops. It is not often that they show up in BOTM. one day, when I grow up, I would like to build a crotch bobber.

Ok, I guess I'll go first.  This Digger Project is centered around a '78 750F engine that is basically stock, just gone through.  The frame is a mid 70's AEE hardtail with some minor modifications to allow the rear disc brake from the Super-Sport donor bike, etc.  Wheels, brakes, and forks are all stock.  Tank is a Santee prism.  Seat is from Drag Specialties.  Rear fender is off a '77 750K.  Oil tank is unknown manufacturer, bought from CycleX.  Exhaust is American Motorsport.

This bike also features Tintop's anti-pod filter kit and Frankenbike's clear points cover.

All work, including paint, has been done by myself.  Here's my build thread:  http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=69745.msg773327#msg773327

Thanks for the interest!  Best of luck to my fellow nominees!!!

I love choppers! ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I 'll go next  ;D

This bike should be called "Peer Pressure". I looked at this 1975 CB750 K twice before actually buying. There are several forum members that live in my riding bubble (Syracuse) that also looked at the bike and did not bite. The thing was soooooo filthy that I just couldn't stand the thought of all that simple green and all those shop towels. Turns out that most of the problem was from that pesky chain oiler being screwed almost all the way out. Was spraying oil out like a fire hose, but the chain was in good shape  ;D I ripped the bike down to the last bolt, shined up the covers, painted the frame and engine, and started reassembly. The engine was very solid with 26,000 miles on the clock. Ordered some new pipes, Euro bars, velocity stacks, and some smooth covers from Franken and then started piecing it back together. Always liked the old 1970 Mustang color Black Jade, so I went with that. My seven year old son suggested the lime green decals, and so it was done! Took it down to bike night at Quaker Steak Wednesday night and all the Harley dudes (which is about 98% of the clientele on bike night) were hovered around the Green Goblin like moths to a flame. Here's some before and after pics.

I'm honored (and a little flabbergasted) to even be nominated. That's some tough competition and I don't really feel worthy!

My bike is called the "Sweep The Floor bike", a term I learned from the aircooled VW community years ago. Guys would get together, "sweep the floor" of their garage and donate parts to either help a buddy out or build a drag car for one season, just for #$%*s and giggles.
I looked around one day, after two other SOHC projects, and thought, "Hmmm, I almost have enough to build another bike". Still to come: some CB400F rear sets.

This is TOTALLY a low-buck build and I didn't worry about fingerprints, scratches, paint, polish, etc. It was super fun and gets lots of attention. Here are some pics from last night. I've been helping a buddy build an XS650 (also built from a pile of parts...an abandoned project) and we took 'em out for a spin last night.

Here's my K6 after being scooped off the sidewalk in San Francisco.

It had a FREE sign on it, and my buddy Danny (Domer around here) thought he'd take advantage of that ;)  Corbin needed a bike to build a prototype for new Gunfighter seats, and Danny brought the bike down there.  After months of waiting, Danny got the bike back, but didn't really want to restore it after just buying a Harley, so I bought it off him for a few bucks.  When he brought it out to my place, it looked like this:

My dad and I hauled her up to his shop an hour away, and I got to work!

I had to rebuild or replace many of the components on the bike, but the motor has been solid after a complete tune up.  The pipes are HM300's.  I replaced a Harley rear wheel with bent, rusty spokes with a 17" from a K7.  The tank came from Scott S actually  ;D The side covers came from Stev-o, and many of the other pieces came from the for sale section on this forum.  I couldn't have done it without the help and wisdom at our fingertips on this forum, and look what I have to show for it  :D

I am actually very proud of this bike, as it's my first 750, and my first true restoration...AND, I forgot to mention that the paint on the tank and covers is factory..no resprays.

Thanks for the nomination Gents  8)

Finally getting a chance to get on here after a crazy week.  Anyways, I am very honored to be here.  I grew up around dirt bikes and quads and owned an 82' CB750 for about three years before I decided to build a bike.  This is my first build and I learned most of what I was doing by stalking this forum as well as hondachopper.com.  This is how I found my bike on CL last Nov for $500:

Unfortunately like most of my projects, I got excited to get started and only took one before pic.  The motor is a 75' CB750 and, like Digger, the frame is an AEE hardtail.  One of the first things I did with the build was to trade the gas tank to a guy for a wider rear wheel & tire (170/80-15) that I believe came off of a Shadow.  Had to modify the frame to accept the new wheel.  Cut out the cross tubes, stretched with a jack and welded in new longer tubes:

Tore down the motor and after seeing the condition of the valves and pistons, I decided to go with a totally fresh top end.  New pistons, valves & springs, and some machining and some fresh black paint.  From this:

To this:

Went with a Wyatt Gatling stretched curved gas tank that literally fills the entire backbone.  Actually had to cut some notches in the back lower part of the tank so it would sit down over where the rear fork legs branch off of the backbone.  Oil tank was made by Anything Goes 74.  Rear fender is a Jesse James One Ton Ho.  Seat is a Biltwell Slimline solo.  This pic also shows the initial mock up of the forward controls and brake linkage, both from TC Bros.

After many hours spent welding on various bungs, tabs and fittings, I sent the frame off for a silver vein hammertone powdercoat:

CycleX carbs and pipes:

Got rid of the Santee electrics box, a little to big, bulky and chrome for what I was going for.  Got a new rec/reg unit and a $15 ebay electronics project box and made a new wiring harness:

Polished the fin tips of the elec. box to match my motor:

On the motor.  Blue switch is for headlight, black is for turn signals.  No controls and no wires on the handle bars:

That's all I have time for right now.  I will post some more a bit later.  Kind of feel like I'm rambling a bit, apologies if I am, but I spent the last 8 months building this sucker and kind of enjoy talking about it.  Thanks again and best of luck to the other awesome bikes nominated this month!

With the electronics box finished, I had to figure out a way to mount it.  Had these metal brackets from a fence I built.  I used three of them for this.  Drilled out the bottom bracket to 1/4" where the holes for the original electronics box mount go.  For the top two brackets, used a step bit to step them out to 9/16" to allow the bolt heads to sink and sit flush with the top mount as well as allow the socket to fit.  Then sandwiched them together with JB weld.  When it was done the mount turned out pretty nice, secure and hidden.

Thanks Terry.  A little more info on the build, I wanted to keep the rear fender lines clean so I welded the struts to the fender then welded tabs to the frame above the axle:

Intalling the LED signal bar:

Turned out pretty nice, as low profile signals as I could find:

Monster Craftsman chain tensioner:

Iron cross tappet covers:

Matching oil adapter and fb-stuff clear EI cover:

Thanks for the nomination guys. I have had motorcycle most of my life but have never done a project like this. I started this last July so took about a year to do. My computer crashed the other day and I have lost all my pictures of the build. I am trying to get them recovered off the HD so hopefully soon I will have more to post.

How it looked when I got. I kept telling myself take a picture but soon as I got it unloaded I took off the ape hangers, sissy bar and the huge engine guard so this is the first picture of it.

The was stripped all down and everything was polished, painted, bleed on or replaced. The rear hoop was made from the old handlebars. The tank is from a cb500t. I made the seat/tail section out of fiberglass first time I have ever done fiberglass wasn't to bad.The only advise with learning fiberglass don't scratch your balls until you have showered don't ask me how I know that.

The engine has a 650 cam and new gaskets etc. First time I have ever polished stuff came out pretty good.

The forks were rebuilt and the front disk drilled. Turnsignals are from a 2005 Yamaha vmax and same with the top of the  handlebar clamp.

The tail light is a 1937-38 from a ford and the exhaust is off a 1977-78 cb550.

The shocks are craptastic and will be replaced this winter. I would only recommend these shocks if you have a hemorrhoids the jack hammering they will do on your arse will drive them so far up your body they will be afraid to come down for a at least 6 months :)

The paint is spraymax K2 spray cans and is a 32 ford blue. It really is a decent paint out of a can if you haven't tried it I recommend it.

Thats all I have right now hope I can get the others off my HD.

Thanks Matt
