an alternator dream

i had an idea. i took out the starter motor from the 836 years ago, and i'm wondering if it would be possible to fit an alernator in there, and lop off the rotor etc. or am i just dreaming???

Hmm.. interesting thought but even if you reworked the starter clutch to grab always the gear ratio would spin the "alternator" at a scarey rate of speed. What's the starter ratio now, maybe 5 to 1 ? So at 8000 rpm engine speed the alternator would be spinning 40000 RPM. Yikes!!! Unless you could make more of a modest gearing arrangement for it. Lots of work or maybe use the space there as a  "road oven" and slow cook some ribs while you ride to your campout.
