Hey you all:
If I ever get my bike running again I have some crazy idea to make a trailer. What I want to do with it is almost crazier.
When I'm not working on my SOHC, I'm an avid mountain biker. Yeah, it's kinda funny I guess -- I have a friend who owns 3 motorcycles and says "If it ain't got a motor, I won't ride it". I like to ride several days a week after work, season permitting.
Anyway, I've been looking around the web to see if anyone has done this and I haven't really found what I'm looking for. It won't need to carry much weight -- a heavy mountain bike weighs about 35 lbs, with gear maybe 50 lbs. I doubt that my bike would even know it was there weight-wise. I'll keep it utilitarian of course, as I like to camp and if it's solid it would be fun to try on a trip.
Anyway, when I've seen trailers for Harleys and Goldwings, they use a regular trailer hitch -- but it doesn't seem like that gives enough freedom to lean the bike around sharp corners. Anyone see another hitch design for a cycle trailer that's different?
lower shock mounts look like an ideal place to mount the "hitch".
I'm hoping the whole trailer won't weigh more than 75-100 lbs. I have an extra air shock for a mtn bike that will give alot of adjustability for different weight loads -- that is if a "swingarm" type suspension will work. I think it will, as it's a trailer!
Anyone seen a good idea for hitching the trailer to the bike?
Thx
Zeke
