I hear you regarding putting the stickers back on after the paint. I was in the same boat with my KO and decided to leave the oil sticker off. Paint looks just to dang good to cover it and I was not after concourse.

Hey there everyone, it's been a long time since I had an update on here, I set the engine in the frame snd realized the guy who plated my engine hardware lost several critical engine mount bolts and won't reply back. I ended up not being able to make it at the deadline I had set for myself due to some setbacks and was so disgusted with it I didn't go to Barbers and it's been almost a month and a half since I turned a wrench on it.  It's ok, it's under blankets and protected in the garage so as soon as my finances clear up once again, I'll be back on to finish it by spring time and get several thousand miles ride time this coming year out of it.

Was wondering if you made it to Barber?

Don't be down on yourself, you set the bar pretty high.
When doing a restore of that caliber, better not to rush it as something always pops up.

Yeah, I just decided to step back from it a while, calm and collect myself, this bike is a classic and doesn't deserve to be slammed together to make a deadline.  It just hurt when I had practically everything right there on hand and the first real move forward was the gears of progress shattering and my hopes of cruising there and back on it vanished.

Not 100% sure but Yamiya sells a replica #8 bolt kit which may contain the engine bolts required. Check the site- the sizes are listed and early #8 heads may look better than the later 'pig snout' eights which started coming in late k0 range.

You are better off taking it slow as another member said. You don't want to wish you had done it different 12months later.

K0 frame bolt lots come up on ebay too- you just have to be patient if you want it correct.

All in all your getting good results from the supplier side of things.  Yes, its an interesting bike.......lots of early original parts but a few suspect items you have identified. Note the brace on your center-stand. I have a later # K0 without the brace so possibly yours was switched at some point.  Your working much faster than most of us. Its great to see the next generation loving and working on OUR favorite bikes. We are watching with interest........

Thank you for your kind words...if younger guys like me don't step up and do our part to get involved wrenching, restoring and riding these old bikes, they're just going to end up as rusted heaps of the past in someone's garage.   I really love the older bikes, I'm 27, and have been riding motorcycles 22 years now (dad put me on a bicycle when I was 4 1/2, got that then for my 5th b-day, a Yamaha PW50 lol)...they are my passion and hobby.  I am beginning to be on the fence about this bike, the only things that have been changed are the handlebars for more touring capability over the K0 bars from the way it was sold new, I got the bike from the original owner and my uncle has known the guy longer than 30 years, and somehow I ended up with it.  Other than a minor spill to the right, scratching up the chrome cover on that side, it was fairly undamaged.  The stand is original, this is a weird bike and by my searching is an early 3/70 bike in the 26xxx frame and engine range with lots of weird early K0 parts...kind of a parts bin special to get rid of the left over early stuff.

And thank you for the working quickly compliment, I'm just trying to get this thing done right for barbers so I can cruise around in style.
Wow Dan, nice thread/worl..I just started mine this weekend and mine was built 4/70 and has the same stand yours does too. Mine lookes/looked identical to yours!:) Mine also needs alot of stuff and work..:(I'll be interested in some parts too...Bill

Hello everyone!  Long time no see, update, or whatever... sorry, I got really wrapped up in school, some grades were made, and now I can come back to this for a little while school is out for the semester.

The K0 has been safely stored in my father's garage, I moved a little ways away, it's a 15 minute jog, so not too far along with my other bikes 72' H2, 66 X6, 83' CX650T, 99 SV650S, 06' GSX1300R, etc. etc.  I think my bikes take up most of the space he has available lol.  But it is under lock and key, and is actually pretty close to being able to be reassembled.  I just have to find some motor mount bolts (that my plater lost, and now won't respond to me)...along with some more minor parts for the brakes and pending fluids, battery, etc. it should be able to be started, probably a week or so's assembly time to get everything just right and not scratch anything up.  Now syncing and tuning the carbs...that might be another ordeal all together...

But!  I will post some updates of the bike and how it is doing very soon, plan to sell my hayabusa this spring, roll the money into some guns and parts for this bike and try to put 10k+ miles on the 70' CB750K0 this riding season (if it's up to the task).

Thanks again to all who have helped along the way!
Dan

Hey Dan......what cond is your H2?   Pics?  I've been toying with the idea of buying an H1, found a real nice one at a reasonable price, which is not easy.
Have you seen the "massive" for sale thread, he should have the bolts you need.

Here's my 72' H2, I'm looking for some parts, but luckily got an NOS has cap for $5 local, they thought it was off a Yamaha dirt bike...I had a 73' H1, but sold it about two years ago, mint really, had 3,300 original miles.  Any Triple at a reasonable price is an oddity now...if I were you I'd get it.  I'll check out the thread on the for sale section in hopes of finding those engine mount bolts I need, and thanks for the heads up on that too btw.

Thanks,
Dan

Sick red paintjob.  Looked through the thread but didn't see details on the paint.  Do we know the code for the paint or did he buy a vintagehondapaint kit?

Hello all,

It's been a while since I've posted...got bummed out that I couldn't get the bike finished in time for Barber's last year...well, my goal is that for this year!  I'm going to get this thing going AND ride it down there from Huntsville to Leeds.  I need a few small parts and assembly to get this thing road ready to get down there...I need the lower engine mount hardware, rebuild the front caliper, get some tank emblems, find some tank trim and a gas cap, battery, gas and insurance and I'll be good to go.  I will be working and posting progress shortly.

A little embarrassed to post this, but I got to looking around the garage today at the parts I had and what I needed...I think I found the engine mount bolts tucked away in a box behind some other parts...so I could have made the Barbers deadline last year...was happy and infuriated at the same time.  I am going to begin detailed reassembly probably this Saturday...Will post progress.

On a side note, I need to find some affordable insurance with an agreed upon value for the bike...I forgot where, but I was quoted $400 for a $10k policy...would like to do a littele better.

Hey Dan....good to see you're back.  Last time I posted here I was shopping for an H1, didn't get one.
But did find a Z1 that I am currently restoring.

Do you want OEM tank emblems or repops?

Thanks Stev-o, I'm glad to be back...I am going to get busy on getting this bike done properly before Barbers.   Sorry about you not finding an H1, but I think you'll be happier with the Z1, what year did you get?  I think I'm going to order some from yamiya-750...they are pricey, $111, but they are bent to the shape of the tank and look really good.  I don't think I can afford or find a genuine set.

I bought a '75 Z1B, runs great.  I'm currently rebuilding the rear wheel, the PO put a goofy 16" on it.

Have you seen the emblems at Marble Motors?

I got a little work done today...

-got the wiring harness placement finalized, most clamps on.
-cut the chain to length.
-found all engine mount bolts, bolted engine down.
-chain guard on.
-ignition switch and wiring routed properly.
-engine finally sealed up with final covers.
-new footpeg rubbers.  I love new parts.

It doesn't sound like a lot,  but having to sort through parts you put away a year later that weren't organized and being careful not to scratch anything takes a while.

I got a little bit done today, new fasteners here and there, I got the oil tank and lines ran, made sure to have proper routing of the lines, etc. etc...but, I didn't realize that I had lost one of the rubber grommets that acts as a damper/ spacer for the headlight ears and that one little part has held up me getting the front end finally together...so, I figured instead of fuming that I was waiting on that one little part....I might as well order ALL the other parts I need to complete the bike and be happy about waiting on all the new shiny parts to come in.

-Found a set of two of the discontinued left side exhaust clamps and placed them promptly on order.

-I ended up ordering new K0 tank badges, a K0 keychain (totally necessary) and K0 mirrors from Yamiya 750 in Japan, they should be here somewhat soon...jumped on the chance to get the mirrors with the way that Honda is discontinuing parts right and left, that was the last set they had.

-I ordered from some online place, the right two exhaust clamps, a new tank cap, the missing grommet, and a new points cover.

-Ordered a set of lower tank trim for K0's (david silver spares makes it) as well.

Today was one of those days where things don't go so smoothly...I spent a majority of my time trying to locate the hardware I needed to button down parts...and some nimrod (me) put the all balls kit in wrong and created a gap that wouldn't allow the fork ears to be held in place properly.  So after 45 minutes, and taking the front end off again, knocked the tapered races out and started over.  It came together nicely, and somehow my left side turn signal lost the insert for the fork war or something, so I'm on the hunt for that part along with a few others.  It doesn't look like I did much, but I did.
