1981 CX500 Deluxe fell into my lap

Found this on CL.  Turns out the guy was about 5 minutes away.  $200 for a mostly complete bike (missing side cover, bent handlebars and creased tank) with title and manual.  Had an issue with the spark and ran out of patience with it.  Came with a parts motor and rolling frame.

Edit:  I'm sure the battery is dead and there were no keys.  Master cylinder/caliper does work but M/C is cracked up and repaired with JB weld.

Next to the CB750 engine that CX500 was thought to be just as good and bullet proof!!
My son had a CX and he loved it ,he's a big old boy/5' 10"/325 and he used to zip around at 90mph all the time.

solid "flying V" engines and keeps the handle great with the weight down low.

Also very easy to pull engine as I see you have found out already. Big things to  watch for are the stators go and you have to drop the engine to replace them . Also the water pump seal gaskets if I recall. Other than that they are rock solid.  Dubbed plastic maggots for the bikini'ish fairing on early models. A crack at how ugly they were thought to be .
