I've been a member of the Badweatherbikers (Buell) forum since '97 when I purchased my first and only Buell.
The Buell days are long behind me, but the friendships forged during that time last forever.

The BadWeb (as it's known) had a Rider Assistance Network, visible only to registered members. It looks like this:

Below you will find information pertaining to fellow SOHC4 members who have valiantly volunteered their support should any of us encounter problems when riding far from home.

I personally like the idea  Not trying to be an azz but it's what happens afterwards that I had an issue with on another forum that had the same thing.

The list ended up on an Excel spreadsheet and it was passed around like a doobie. Non members were getting ahold of the list and all this info was out in the wild.

Naturally, I had myself removed from the master list and asked folks to remove me from what they had on a spreadsheet.

I have no problem helping folk that need it.  I just don't want my info being passed around like that.

I think its a good idea. But it would needsome sort of measure in place to make sure what really says happened to him doesnt happen.
But as far as that goes i would be willing to be on a list like that.

Well the example listed above is all the info a distressed member needs to call for help and not enough to cause me any concern. Secondly, that info is only available to registered users. And in the event that someone unknown to the world of SOHC4s calls, or isn't actually in need of assistance, I guess you can always refuse to help.

How about not listing phone numbers or e-mail addresses, just location and what sort of assistance can be provided? PMs could be used to make contact.

Not all riders have smart phones or travel with computers. I think a phone number would be required. I dont see a problem, Really? is just paranoid!

Ya, and a stranded rider may not be able to wait roadside for assisting members to check their PM's.
I sometimes don't check mine for a day or two, but I answer my phone when it rings.

Maybe a post limit to see the info so we all have a chance to get to know the ppl on the forum before they have access to this valued info. Just a thought

I like the idea, as long as the list is available to members only (unavailable to lurkers).

Wouldn't a recommended parts travel kit be a good step to establish a spare emergency kit for travel. That would help immensely.
New set of plugs
new set of points and condesensors
20 ft coil of 16 ga wire for electrical repairs.
solder and portable gas soldering iron
1/2 dozen stock bullet or spade connectors
Shim set or alternate method of gapping points
Impact driver & hammer for heavier repairs, case screws, etc
really long trip, spare clutch disc plates (friction & steel)
spare old clutch and throttle cables coiled and taped to inside side covers

Since a few others are throwing it out now i can offer overnight stay food beverage and i have a small workspace. I work odd hours but i dont care to help a fellow rider in need

ONce we figure out the logistics of maintaining the list, sign me up. I can see issues around how we make changes to our information if we move, what if we just loose interest in the community and want to be removed, ect.

I belong to the CouchSurfing community for travelers looking for a place to stay for a short period of time. They allow you to select a few different options for how active you would like to be: contact only for a coffee, have space available for an emergency, have space available for short or long period of time, do not have room available at this time. Maybe we can use a similar model.
