1979 Goldwing front end

is this a direct bolt on and upgrade in suspension for a 750? Looking to build a cafe with one of my spare K1's

I should state I have searched and most threads recommend the 75-76 GL front end.

Now The 79 I have found has gold anodized rims, 19 front 17 rear. i thought the 79 GL's came with comstars? I like the spoke look and want to keep the same theme.

A lot of guys use the GL front end for an upgrade to braking - dual front discs.

I have recently put a '76 GL front end on a '71 CB750.  Direct bolt-on.  Switched to tapered roller steering bearings in the process.

The spoked wheel front end you have is probably off a 1976 "LTD". They were a limited edition that came with gold accents. 75-77 GL have spoked wheels, 78-79 GL has comstars.

  The 3rd pic shows the differences between the early and late GL front ends. The mounting lugs for the calipers on the early forks are wider apart than the later years (pic of the late front end was converted to early spoked wheel)

Improved handling and braking. This will most likely be used on the green chopper k1 if I use it to make a nice cafe

The GL front swap is the first thing I would do (my opinion). Sturdier forks, better brakes. Loose the GL front fender though. The K idiot light handle bar clamp thing bolts to the GL forks, but the K gauges would need the mounts removed and widened/re-welded for the GL top clamp.

The tapered bearing kit for the CB K fits with the GL forks.

My K8 has a 17' rear rim and it is wider than the earlier model. Hence, you can put a wider tire on it, which I did.

havent committed yet.. more interested with the front suspension.. dont care for the rim shape..
