Yes...it will go in 180 out....!
« on: June 26, 2006, 07:11:09 PM »
Well....

after trying for ten minutes to fire up the Sandcast engine with only
occasional backfires for success I decided to "recheck" the timing.  I
statically set it when putting the engine back together.

Come to find out that the cam that activates the points can be
installed 180 out so I was closing the points rather than opening
them at TDC.  :o  Reversing the cam resulted in the engine starting
although with lots of help from the choke so something is still not
quite right.......but it runs so I am happy for today.  ;D

....I guess this is better then finding out that the camshaft was put in 180
out.  ;D

There's really no "180 out" on the cam... if you set it 180 out - timing mark straight down instead of straight up - one turn of the crank will get you back to 1-4 TDC and voila! the cam is the "right way up".

I guess in that case reversing the points cam would fix it. Two
wrongs make a right??   ;D  The next owner would be in
for a shock though.  :o

Just plug the blue into the yellow wire, and vice versa. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"
